The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 550

I've decided: after I finish my PhD proposal (got to front a panel who will decide if it's worth continuing on) I am going to get myself some IEM - really nice, premium and made of metal. I can't spring for something like the AKG3003, but I'm thinking of things like the Flat4, CKM1000, CK100Pro, etc. Anything else fit the bill?

I'm doing a bit of a full circle, just traded my XBA-4 for a FAD Heaven C.

Yes, I'm pretty biased against it, but I'd rather listen to treble peaks using some broken Grado ot a Beyer T1. Yes I know it's this thread's playlist too. Convince me with something very, and I mean very compelling.

Does korean bands going to Japan count? If it doesnt I can live with the Jap Ver wink.gif

Lol but seriously, the song is seriously repetitive which is why I put it in the list. The song has no substance, but it is hugely repetitive (and good fun) which is why I believe it should be in the list along with Moonlight Sonata (actually I was considering putting in Fantasie Impromptu in as well, however as Chopin said it sounds quite similar to Moonlight Sonata which is why I didn't). It is something that people  may not like (an acquired taste just like AKB48) and it is hugely out of place, however it does fit the criteria quite well which is the point of this right? wink.gif

I think this is the longest set of posts I've seen veyrongatti here before. He's given some thought to his submission, so I think it's fair it gets added to the list. LOL if you want jgray you can put a warning next to it if that makes you feel better.

"Throwaway" lyrics are actually a really interesting topic to me. Repetition has always been a major facet of music, but in the 70s I think there was an explosion when it came to addressing the idea head on as it related to music. The Krautrock movement (Can, Amon Duul, Ash Ra, Popol Vuh, Eroc, etc.) and some of the weirder progressive stuff (Soft Machine, Gong, Hawkwind, etc.) really focused on repetition of patterns and textures as a means of sonic exploration. Also the punk movement started to look at music as a disposable commodity and what that really meant, toying with the idea of recycled chords and putting minimal effort into composition, instead focusing on raw emotive energy and the message behind it (hence the appropriateness of band names like "Kleenex" --- something you just throw away, yet something that is still a part of your life).

Going into the 80s I think the avenues of sonic exploration that were opened up by these movements just exponentially grew, especially with the increasing reliance on synthesizers and electronics (though they had been used since the 50s and 60s --- Raymond Scott, Moog, etc.). In the 80s we saw the idea of punk stripped of its emotion under the icy exterior of cold wave. New wave took the ideas of commercialism in music to a whole new level, and there was this crazy stuff coming from the islands called dub. DJ culture and house in particular sort of took the idea of recycling and repetition to its logical conclusion, and the notion of sampling meant the sonic past would always come back to haunt you.

The K-pop thing is admittedly something I know next-to-nothing about, but just seeing those titles and listings I think it fits right in myself.

I need to include some tracks as well: namely The Fall's "Repetition" and some stuff from the Asian 80s band, Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Was close between Meshuggah and Phillip Glass for second track, but IMO nobody should have to listen to Phillip Glass.  You can thank me later.biggrin.gif

Nah, I've cooled down now (something happened). I'll put it in the playlist just because it fits the theme so perfectly. I mean, what better representative from the sheep mass consumer side of things than most of the kpop idol songs or whatever.

IMO music is music from throat singing to Pop, it is still music. I like to keep an open mind and try new genres from time to time. Maybe that is just me ^^
