Was anyone as geeky as me as a kid and actually tried to memorize as many digits of Pi as possible?

I'll go ahead and say that I quit at only 50 digits. I still memorize all 50 though (gonna have to take my word for that).

You win!  beerchug.gif

Hey Tom, when's the last time you talked to Rocky over at Dunu?  Are you going to be taking a look at the Detonator?

Last time was close to 8 months ago. Probably not, I'm pretty busy these days, and I'm splitting time between two cities. Also, I sort of panned the Tai-Chi pretty hard. I'm not sure if they'll want me to write anything more about their stuff. The "Detonator" sure is a cool name though.

Pi days makes sense only in countries that use MM/DD. That took me like 3 seconds to figure out why 14/03 is Pi day.

Took me until you said it.

Okay, just wondering.  They seem to be looking for reviewers atm.  I think they're trying to send China a message or something because - in addition to Detonators - they've got Landmines, Torpedos and Missiles.

What can I say, I like variety.

The LG is a fantastic amp, but it's not really suited for driving highly sensitive headphones. Its gain is essentially determined by the tubes used, which for 6SN7 and 12SN7 is a gain of around 8 to 10. I'm kind of OCD about having a totally black background, so I avoid using low impedance, sensitive headphones with it due to the hiss factor. So no TH600 / TH900 or Qualia for the LG. On the other hand the HD800, K1000, and orthos sound truly breathtaking. I've got a pair of vintage 50s Hytrons in there now, and with the HD800 it's just one of the most immersive and holographic combos I've ever heard. It's addicting.

But yeah, I'm still thinking about other amps. That thread I linked to I stumbled across it while looking for info on tube plate settings.

If I were looking for a massive solid state beast to use as my main amplifier, the Liquid Gold would be on my short list for sure. As it stands those funds are more likely going to be going toward the Leviathan which will require an investment of several thousand in just its Hashimoto transformers alone.

As we are on the subject, any thoughts on a rather compact amp (but fixed) to drive only iems? Integrated DAC would be a plus. I spotted the Woo Wa 7 but beyond that...

You do, that.  I'm with you there as I've come to realize that it's the journey and not a destination.

Though I suspect that you'll be rolling for a least a little while to see if you can somehow get the background dark enough.  Does it absolutely positively have to be totally black?  What if it's just the slightest hiss?  Like so slight that you're not even sure if you're really hearing anything?

I'm trying to imagine that.  The best HD 800 setup I've heard is iPodPJ's Beta22 rig.  I found that quite impressive.  One of the highlights of last year's LA meet.  Oh, and just for the record, that thing he was doing where he stacked the HD 650 on top of the HD 800 did produce an audible difference by adding body and richness.  Would I necessarily buy both of those cans just to do that?  No, probably not.  But he wasn't off his rocker there.

Man, I wish you and Silent could have been at Changfest.  We probably would have gotten to hear his rig, and you would have been able to meet the CS crew.  You know they had personalized shirts for the meet?

Whoah. I just found out the 5G iPod touch has been measured with a 0.75 ohm zout. All the other specs are in line with or better than the ip4 which I adored for music. (Not liking my iP5 quite as much, though it may easily be placebo).

I'm tempted just to get one for a dedicated music player but that seems a little wasteful.

I wouldn't anticipate it sounding any different than the ip5. I have both the ip4 and ip5 and find them very, very similar. I actually prefer the ip5, as I perceive a bit more clarity in direct sighted a/b and the 3 ohms does nothing adversley to the IEMs I have. Just thought I'd share my opinion to save you some $.

I think brands should all include nice cables in all iems above 500$. You should see the cables that came with the Miracles...dental floss. Good thing I had ordered the Beat Audio Cronus (still adding 300 bucks). The 1plus2 may be expensive but you get awesome cables with it...

Lol, now you're getting colder although I agree I'm in dire need of two or three headphone stands
