I've got a Blue Hawaii SE coming my way. I put my deposit on it like October / November. Current estimates for shipping are April / May, but I'm not getting my hopes up since sourcing parts can take a while (Justin has a lot of them already, but still needs a few more bits and pieces I believe). Also there have been a few setbacks: the metal sample came back and wasn't cutting it, so he's going to have to source new metal for the enclosures.

Also he's planning on combining the 3rd and 4th runs now... which is... interesting. Not sure how that's going to work for folks like me who are in the 3rd run, but it should make for a shorter wait time for those in the 4th.

If I get the BHSE by the summer, I'll be pleasantly surprised. And quite happy.

Hmmm, 9 months like the birth of an amplifier. Good to know you've other interests in audio. Did you select Purple? (quietly hoping you did)

The first two runs for the BHSE were like over a year in wait time, so Justin is slowly but surely improving things on that front. In a way that was almost like a right of passage for some head-fiers, The Great Blue Hawaii Wait. Something to tell the kids on fitful nights.

I thought about going for a big purple people eater. AFAIK one person has selected purple, and Justin made purple Picos so that should give people a rough idea of what it'll look like. In the end though I decided to do something unprecedented and requested a custom one-off of seafoam green. The metal should be somewhere in the vicinity of:

They look like mermaid scales!

Thinking this will be my submission for the repetition mix-tape. 4 and one-half minutes of the same thing over and over again, while still managing to not be annoying, somehow. The same guitar riff repeated the entire song, the same chords and harmonies, and the lyrics are repeated several times. Apparently this is what Depeche Mode has fallen to...

I loved this song. Very simple but with a sort of intensity building up.

How about almost any Mumford and Sons song. They use the same chords over and over, but still manage to make the song beautiful. Example:

It's a combination of their lyrics, Marcus' voice, and the overall vibe of the recording.

Another song that's quickly becoming a favorite of mine is this:

The lyrics BEG listening.

Well, my friend let me try out his Monoprice 8320 IEMs for the evening. I must say, for $7...

700

These sound damn fine with a small 1k boost and a bit of boost in the upper registers...

That being said, their ergonomics are horrible. I can't even get a proper seal with my Meelec tri flange tips (large and small sizes) nor any other tips in my collection.

And while I had my tip stash, I continued playing tip roller with my GR07s to find the magical tips that sound good and fix all the problems the GR07 has while isolating well.

So far, the Ety tri flanges don't isolate that well, lack in the upper registers (and lows due to bad seal), Meelec small tri flanges don't sound right and don't isolate well either, and the large meelec tri flanges create a treble spike somewhere, but isolate very well. So far the best tips I've found are the large hybrid single flange tips, as far as SQ is concerned, but they only have meh isolation. Better than the ety tri flange and meelec small tri flange though.

Sorry for the rant, I'll carry on with homework now~

I just tried to fire up Crysis 3, and I was promptly informed that I had to have a DX11 GPU to play it.

Well.

Out of curiosity, what do you have?

One of these, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220403

but with a X9100 CPU upgrade and a SSD. It uses a 9800M GS.

Ah, even without the BS software limitation I want to say that would struggle a bit on anything but lowish settings, unfortunately.  The game's thirsty as ****.

I can get a nice, playable FPS with everything maxed but AA, but I'm experiencing all sorts of driver related bugs.  This is actually the first time I've ever had generic "ATI problems", I swear >_>

-Edit-

That said, I've still played through most of the game at this point and, honestly, I've found it mediocre.  Parts of it are great, but I'm constantly dissapointed by how it fails to live up to the dynamic experience found in even the first few minutes of Crysis 1.  It feels more like a ridiculously pretty Crysis 2.

You'd be correct. It's been a slow decline over the last year or so.

I've gone from being able to max out everything, to having to reduce settings here and there. If I had the money to replace it I'd probably take it out back, and euthanize it.

Yeah, I think this is the first year I'd ever tell someone they really needed something better than the HD4850 (competitor to the 9800 years back) I was running before late 2011.
