If we were supposed to arbitrarily hate on it, looks like I didn't get the memo :P

Phew, would had been embarrassing if you hadn't informed me otherwise. In fact I was 90% sure I would end up the odd one out and like these. How naive, should have realized it was all a conspiracy ;)

Don't think there's much left to say about them though so I'll just tip-roll and try the impedance thing out, maybe mess with filters and EQ.

You'd be crazy to think otherwise ;).

Nah I read eke2k6's comment.

Maybe I just wanted a more formal conspiracy memo. And maybe a bribe as well since he had gone through all those efforts. mad.gif

I'm sure it won't be that bad...right? confused_face.gif

Maybe I'll take a break from music to get the bias out of my head.

I'm still listening myself. :P Probably gonna watch a movie and crash :). They work good for movies too. Looks like its time to add the Sui to my signature below my name :P Nothing wrong with polygamy. lmao.

Another entry for esoteric portable amplifiers:

The MASS-Kobo Model 385

Here's their Japanese product page.

Here's a show report with a little blurb about them.

This thing retails for a whopping 950 USD or thereabouts.

Also Fostex is working on a portable tube amp, the HP-V1:

Here's their blog entry announcing it.

Here's a thread on head-fi with not much information.

I love the massive heatsinks on the side of it, which make sense given how much heat tubes generate.

Calling a_rec for this comparison. http://www.head-fi.org/t/654395/mdr-7550-vs-xba4

I feel like you're more fitting to comment on this than I am.

Actually, I don't think the Flat-4 are all that transparent. They have a distinctive and quite intriguing sound signature, that's probably more subtle than the ES5's. They're analytical, but not quite transparent imo.

Why would wearing them over ear offset the sound? confused.gif

Maybe you're inserting them at a different angle when you wear them that way. Other than that, I can't think of any reason why "bass is positioned higher than it should", as rotating them by 180 degrees makes zero difference to their (round) drivers.

jgray, sorry for the confusion.  Maybe I'll chase tmac for a customized avatar.  :(

Sheena Easton did voice acting for the character Annah in Planescape Torment.  I don't want to go all fanboy, but I could listen to that woman read a telephone book for HOURS.

Tis okay, since that avatar is iconically MF, as far as I'm concerned. Meaning the TMAC is doing its job very well.

Oh I see. Well for one thing at least the story is written by the same guy for the previous game, maybe with the crazy funding they are getting they can bring back old VAs too.

Yeah, the Flat4 has a distinct U-shaped signature, so I wouldn't call it transparent in terms of its FR. I think there's a certain clarity to their sound which is perhaps what some might mean when they describe it as sounding transparent: while powerful the bass doesn't muddy up the sound, and the midrange sounds very open and clear to me.

It has that "fun but refined" quality of the TH900, only more extreme and less polite compared to the TH900.

On a semi-related note, I'd love to visit the Ocharaku tea shop at some point. It has such a lovely vibe to it that kind of mirrors their approach to audio I think.

Extreme attention to interior detail without getting cluttered, exciting and vibrant yet organized and composed. Traditional yet unconventional.

My only agenda was to save people money that they could put to use elsewhere, and avoid the hype from the appreciation thread, Señor Sourgrapes.
