Have you had the chance to listen to the AD900 at some point? Not that it'll do much unless you compare it side by side though, now that I think about it.

I used to own a pair, but no sadly I don't have them side by side. The AD900X reminds me of what I remember about the AD900 sound, and yet I like the AD900X better so I'm guessing there were improvements. Really I'm most interested in comparing against the MA900.

In old school usenet fashion, they could be called advocacy threads. In which case, typing at the top of your lungs is more or less the point.

More or less in parallel to reasons why I'm not posting as much. That and I'm increasingly content to upgrade slowly these days.

I will say that MBV's new CD finally arrived. It's so... purple.

It's too bad still that the ones that started such thread are usually newbies with little experience behind them.

While I myself do not own much gear; heck not even doing the buy-sell "sacred" ritual; being around with the right bunch and using for a long time products that are at minimum inoffensive does to my ears a long way to be as refined as possible.

(That means I love you guys whole bunches).

If anything, my posting there would be more trolling because I know better. People don't visit appreciate threads to read criticism after all.

It's why I avoided the ASG-1 ver.1 thread like the plague and kept my impressions to this thread.

The thing is in certain situations I feel it is imperative to state otherwise. If you have both good and bad it's best to go with both. That is what I did on the Heir thread. As you most likely know the thread is definitely over-hyped to some extent as a lot of threads indeed are. I felt it necessary to post my negative comments in regards to the build on my unit as I was the only one to get such shoddy work from them. At least how I see it, it serves as a deterrent for them to not do such things to someone again as it was clearly unfair. Especially at the premium I paid, I deserved the same treatment as every Heir customer is entitled to and not a patch job on a design I paid for. From my point of view I took it as an insult. Plus the reply I got back was arrogant & insulting.

So in those regards I do feel it is good to state both the good and the bad even on an appreciation thread. Otherwise it really just is about over-hyping a product and to some extent can be misleading for potential buyers. Then again it also makes for a more interesting read as we all have different preferences and perceptions of sound :).

But I do agree with the above if you only have negative to state an no positive, it's probably best to stay away from the thread lol. I could see that as trolling then. You'd be better served making a quick dash to the For Sale Forum before doing otherwise lol :P.

One of my favorite titles is "Product Evangelist". It always makes me think that something somewhere has gone horribly wrong with the world.

Neat!

It looks like one of the Dupli-Color spray paints*. Makes me wonder how it'd look with one of the punchier color combinations, like red/blue transition.

* (Which I mostly know because I'd considered painting one of my bike frames with it a few years ago. Decided against mostly because getting a hard, durable finish with spray paint is possible, but requires either baking (I don't have an oven that can fit a bicycle) before adding the clear coat or hanging it up to cure for a few years.)

I haven't gotten mine yet. ;____;

Did you guys order the LP / CD combo or just the CD? I'm telling myself it hasn't shown up yet because of the vinyl....

I got the CD + download of HD version. My CD arrived late last week but I couldn't open it until last night.

If the vinyl artwork is just a larger version of the CD artwork, you'll probably be able to swim in it by staring hard.

Due in part to the discussion last night, as well as this thread, I find myself revisiting the HD650 today.  I feel like everyone's in on some kind of joke except me, and it's really starting to bug me.

In particular, I'm running some tracks from The Beautiful South's Blue Is The Colour album.  I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this album until I recently rediscovered it.  Here are some track selections (excuse the poor YT quality):

I gotta say, I'm still not blown away.  The music just doesn't come to life with the HD650.  Bless it's little neodymium heart, it seems to want to, but just can't quite get there.  If I had to sum it up in a word, that word would be meek.

That's why I'm so glad fate gave me the 600. Most people who I've spoken to that have owned both, all seem to come away with the conclusion that the 650 is too dark to be practical for everything.

I listen to a good bit of rock, and a few other semi aggressive genres that require more present treble to be portrayed correctly.

just the CD

Did you give them lots of burn in. I hear they take several hundred hours to fully settle in. Plus as you had mentioned earlier the amp could play a big role on things. But the HD650s are colored. Mid centric with bass emphasis and treble roll off. But I was under the impression it has a rather big sound stage being an open back can? So I'm a  bit baffled by your comments regarding the sound stage being small?
