Not to mention since they no longer make them they are gonna get scarce and prices will go up on them.

Yeah I agree, I'm going to give my FS posts a couple more months and if I get no takers I'm just going to close the listing and keep the gear. I'd rather just use them and enjoy them for what they are until they finally break down from wear then give them away. I decided to do the same for my iGrado and months later I'm glad I did. If you watched my last video you'll notice my SR 60i is starting to show it's age.

I've been pretty fortunate though in selling off all the gear I've listed on this forum. Well besides the RAM and Video card lol :P. I have a buyer as well for the remaining UHA6 Op Amps but I've been a bit lazy as it has to be shipped to Israel :P. I'll wait til I have to ship some other stuff out and get it done at the same time.

Well look at it this way, it's a reflection of your hardiness.  Oceania - being home to some of the most ferocious and poisonous things on the planet - has made you tougher.  As a result, you guys can handle it better than us consumerist yanks.

OT:  I recently saw a Air New Zealand commercial where someone named Marina Roodt signs off with "Haere Mai" at the end.  I don't know what it is, but the way I hear it, it just resonates deep in my loins.  I know, I know, it's a whole other country.  But still... it was so delicious I just had to share.

I haven't heard it but everyone seems to agree with Mikes review so I'm guessing his article would be a good benchmark for making your decision. The new 627X will have an 8 hour battery life so if you pull the trigger get the 627x and not the 627 with it's piddly 4 hour battery life

Wow, great tip!  Thanks for that, I didn't even know there was a 627X coming out.

Also Average-Joe quotes it as one of his best / his best amplifier with CIEMs. And he reviews it in his amplifier thread.

Thanks, I'll be sure to go back and check it out again.  I probably missed it before as the Portaphile 627 wasn't in my original consideration list.

lmao that was classical :). Those are the types of people you want to deal with instead of the low-ballers. Stop busting my ballZ! evil_smiley.gif

Yeah agreed, for the last few weeks I've started to wonder if the low ballers and 14 year old troller kids have taken over the FS forums.

We had a good time with those trades.  Both of us got to hear "new" stuff without any cash expenditure (outside of shipping that is).

I haven't tried to sell anything in the FS forums lately.  But that just seems kind of disrepectful.  I tend to make certain requests in terms of shipping, insurance, etc.  But in my mind, when the other person sets a price, I assume that he/she isn't trying to kid with me.

Most of the things I've had the fortune to end up with have been the result of trades. My income sucks but I have a good friend who's better off in that regard, and we have done a lot of trading over the last couple of years. It's surprising the USPS is still losing money considering how often we've shipped things back and forth.smile_phones.gif

Yeah. That ^. And I haven't been home for a few days so only been keeping up with a few select threads (mostly the meet I was organizing).

Why can't I maintain the circadian rhythms of a normal human being? I have a headache. I'm going to make some tea. Have to leave the house at 4:30 am to take my stupid friend to the stupid airport.

The bad thing about being able to really enjoy your music with good sounding gear is you quickly forget the time and before you know it it's almost 1:30 am. I have work tomorrow and have to be up by 8:30 tomorrow morning. I'm crashing guys have a good night

Actually, I can hear [some] detail through the veil, so I don't think that would be my biggest issue with it.  For me, it ultimately comes down to two things:  (a) I actually prefer a signature that's slightly brighter than neutral; and (b) I generally prefer a much wider or more open stage.  While I can see (or hear rather) the appeal of the intimacy that the 650 brings, I ultimately prefer a presentation that's not all up in my business.  The 650 gives me such a closed-up and claustrophobic feeling, that I once described it as listening to music inside a vajajay.  A bit crass perhaps, but that was my gut instinct at the moment.

As for synergy, I have no doubt that's a major part of it.  I've only driven it with either my O2 or my HeadStreamer.  Not ideal I know, but it's what I got lying around.  And since all the amps that are supposed to make it sound fantastic are way out of my budget... well there ya go.

I'm not opposed to experimenting with different pairings - or even listening to it again.  But as it stands, it's just not the first pair I reach for these days.

Yup, I agree.  I think that the prices we pay tend to be a rite of passage for us.  This isn't a hobby for casual listeners.

Wow, the other side of the world!  eek.gif  You'd figure that the dude (or dudette) would have found something cheaper closer to home.  I guess not.

LOL, probably best that I don't rant about the public sector here.  But yeah, trades are a great way to share experiences - and they're fun!  smile.gif

Oh right, the meet.  I can imagine how exhausting that would be.  I think it took purrin a week just to unpack after the SF meet.

Well, theories abound of course, but ultimately that just wouldn't be your style.  I think that voluntarily putting ourselves into a coma for one third of our lives is sheer madness.  And if it weren't biologically necessary, I'd have dropped it like a bad habit long ago.  biggrin.gif

BTW, would it be a terrible faux pas to just send an airport shuttle and a note card in the morning?

Guys guys, looks like my turn has finally come. I couldn't sleep so I decided to mess around on my iPhone and bammo I get an email from Heir with pics showing my brand spanking new 4As and asking for confirmation before shipping

So what do you guys think? I'm so wound up I doubt I'll get any sleep now. I can hardly wait to see how they sound hooked up to Eva and Raven. Man I pray they fit. If I have to send them back for a refit and wait another 6 plus weeks I'm going to cry like a little girl.

So what do you guys think?

They're very cool!

And your ears are shaped like gummi bears.

And what happened to going to sleep?

I'm partial to images for faceplates, but I always love it whenever wizard's work with wood come up. What wood is that?

I have weird ears. If you look closely you'll notice one of the face plates is slightly larger then the other. When I use universals a lot of times I have to go with a larger tip on my right ear to get a proper seal and not have the IEM sound like it has channel imbalance. As for sleep, I have all these tunes running through my head from a 5 hour session and couldn't sleep. Now with this email I might as well forget about sleep. I'm tired but I'm to wound up to lie still. Looks like I'm losing another night to insomnia.

Originally I wanted custom artwork but it was rejected because the design was to complicated. I therefore chose a buckeye burl faceplate and the shells are a dark mamba.

LOL, I didn't mean to say that your ears are shaped funny or anything.  Just that those things look kinda cute.  Now, how long will it take for them to ship it out to you?

No idea, a couple of guys on the Heir thread had their orders delayed due to Chinese customs but for the most part most have had their orders in around a week give or take a couple of days. As for Wizard he does the custom artwork but only in wood. The artwork I wanted was lazier engraved multi coloured artwork and Heir isn't outfitted for overly complex multi coloured laser engraving such as Unique Melody or Westone. If you ask me it's rather strange considering they can do such intricate work with wood
