Firstly, "nice" guys really do finish last. I'm not saying you should be a jerk to women, but you shouldn't go around showing them your sensitive side either. You'll come off as a needy person, which will make a woman run from you or instantly banish you to the friend zone.

A few around here know the history between my wife and I, and it started out in the worst way possible, from a modern male "hooking up" perspective. I thought she was completely out of my league (she is), so I didn't even try. She had all the qualities I looked for in a partner; beautiful, intelligent, sarcastic, short (I have a thing for small women), with a dark sense of humor. Over time we became good friends, because *I* made it a friendship, I even went far out of my way to secretly help with some things. She was a post-grad, living on scholarships and grants, and perpetually broke. So without her knowing, I did things to help out, anonymously, like send lunch for her from her favorite restaurants to the library where she worked, several times a week, and setup a grant for her to assist with tuition and books. The second part was a little tricky, because I had to work out a deal with the school that she was uniquely qualified to receive, and then secretly maneuver things to where she applied for it through her financial aid adviser. This went on for a year, no joke, and then a series of events occurred, starting with her break-up with her then boyfriend, that eventually led to her discovering everything. Which she thought was a little creepy, but amazing, so she asked me out.

Later on I discovered that she'd always wondered why I'd never told her how I felt, believing that I just didn't think of her in that way. All my fault for being a bonehead, but it all turned out for the best.

Just to show, you can plan things like that out, but it's time-consuming, and oftentimes expensive.

Perhaps that'll do the trick, but I just don't find it worthy of the $900 price tag in any way, whatsoever. So, you have the 1P2 right now; that is what I consider really good bassiness. The IQ, on the other hand, is bloated, without enough resolution for its price tier. I can't describe it in any other way. If people thought the FI-BA-SS's treble was "obnoxious", wait 'til they hear the IQs... I almost ripped them off my ears immediately. To me, at least, the Tio is soooo much better. I usually try to find merit in most in-ears; the only merit I can give the IQ is that it sounds fairly spacious. Nothing else. The resolution isn't there. The treble sounds unrefined. It honestly, to me, sounds like a mess. If people can recall, I likened it to Lindsay Lohan. I just can't say enough bad things about the IQ.

Just got them in. Indeed they are pretty nasty in the treble.

I completely understand.

My stories didn't end as well as yours, and I usually ended up giving her my own lunch money.

Oh, to wind back the clock...

So you're telling me that if I buy girls lunch without telling them and secretly deliver it to them...

Yes. You must covet from afar. After all, her happiness becomes your happiness. And if she displays any change in conduct towards you, you'll know that you've got a psychic on your hands. In which case I would suggest thinking unsexy thoughts

She was already a good friend by then, as I'd said. rolleyes.gif

I've done two very grave mistakes tonight (techincally last night since it's 6 am now): drink kind of strong coffee at 8 pm, and clicking this neogaf link at 12 am. Can "Loli" anime girls kill a great game for you?

Blargh gaming. It's become such a circle jerk fest over there with the RAM threads and Nintendo is doomed. Things will hit critical mass once MS debuts Durango. You should hit up OT where we talk circumcision, pooping, tipping, girl-age, and a dash of life de-affirming news (RIP Gaborn) 24/7

I'll say this: a good number of my favorite brands and manufacturers have something new scheduled for this year. Especially in portable audio.

On one hand, I am all jelly.  On the other, given the Glacier issues, I'm also glad I'm not the food taster.

I'm increasingly starting to realize the wisdom of this approach.  Perhaps including all of that in a player (ala HiFiMAN) might be too much, but certainly adding one component to the stack is perfectly manageable.

While I'm not thrilled with the idea of combining a phone and a DAP into one device, I'll be honest, I could use a new phone.  I've got an aging LG Optimus that is looking forward to early retirement, and it's had no qualms about alerting me to it's intentions.  I'm also not on-contract anywhere at the moment, so switching a provider won't be too much of a hassle.  BTW, I did get a chance to check out the Xperia ZL at CES.  It's slick, and it's got a host of consumer-friendly DSP features (stuff that I'll never use), but it just didn't thrill me to death at all.  As for the DAC/amp combo, again alternate suggestions are welcome.

me, that means clean lines.  This rig will be mostly be used for IEMs, though it may be called upon to drive an occasional can or two.

This is where I'm KIND OF going.  I needed a new phone badly, and got the GSIII for xmas.  I'm listening to it au naturel atm (ew, I know), but I'd love at least a DAC for it.
But probably NOT an amp(??), since I seem to be happy in the IEM world.

I make no judgments.  smile.gif  I am, after all, surviving on a Zune - saved only by a decent Wolfson DAC implementation - and a paltry selection of amps.  But I can see myself heading towards a phone/audio convergence for the sake of easier portability.  I'd be interested in any DAC impressions you might have down the road, and of course I'm happy to post my thoughts as well.

So we never took that next step....fast forward about 15 years, and now she is married to the guy that had stolen her boyfriend from her 20 years prior! So in the end I think things worked out best for me...lol.

Is it just me, or does unrequited love beg consideration given the current topic?

I never get tired of hearing this story.  Might want to turn it into a Nicholas Sparks novel one day... though you'll have to create a tragedy somewhere along the lines for plot reasons.  On second thought, maybe not a good idea after all.
