I'll say this: a good number of my favorite brands and manufacturers have something new scheduled for this year. Especially in portable audio.

Actually, I mentioned one of them to you a few PMs ago. You know ... the one that has me giddy like a school girl? Yeah. That I can't wait for.

You're giddy for it? Than I'm giddy for it sight unseen.

Thread Starter

On the portables front, I've decided to try the RSA Intruder if the Glacier doesn't work out for me. I'm just too fond of the amp + DAC all-in-one package approach to portables.

Still really interested in the BAB-1 tho. I'm keeping up with the progress on that front.

Also speaking of all-in-one solutions, I keep coming back to the Woo Fireflies over and over. It's just so sexy. The fact that it has an 1/8" jack and is supposedly extremely quiet with even the most sensitive IEMs makes me want it all the more now. The only qualm I have is, again, the fact that it's said to be fairly warm and stereotypically "tubey," so I worry about synergy with some of my IEMs.

To anyone who hasn't read the books, this season is going to get absolutely CRAAAAAAAZY.

I keep wondering if I should dive into the TV show.  Don't think netflix canada has it yet, though.

While I'm not thrilled with the idea of combining a phone and a DAP into one device, I'll be honest, I could use a new phone.  I've got an aging LG Optimus that is looking forward to early retirement, and it's had no qualms about alerting me to it's intentions.  I'm also not on-contract anywhere at the moment, so switching a provider won't be too much of a hassle.  BTW, I did get a chance to check out the Xperia ZL at CES.  It's slick, and it's got a host of consumer-friendly DSP features (stuff that I'll never use), but it just didn't thrill me to death at all.  As for the DAC/amp combo, again alternate suggestions are welcome.

me, that means clean lines.  This rig will be mostly be used for IEMs, though it may be called upon to drive an occasional can or two.

Any suggestions folks?

This is where I'm KIND OF going.  I needed a new phone badly, and got the GSIII for xmas.  I'm listening to it au naturel atm (ew, I know), but I'd love at least a DAC for it.
But probably NOT an amp(??), since I seem to be happy in the IEM world.

That said, I've had my new (sub-$100) IEMs for a while.  They're replacements to the Xears XE200PROs that I bought used on here, loved, but then pulled on too hard and made a loose connection.  Anyways, they came with literally 8-10 sets of tips.  I went with the ones I had on the XE200PROs, and they were uncomfortable.  Then they got worse, to the point where I hated them.

Anyways, i finally played with tips this weekend.  Finally found a pair I REALLY like.  Insertion is deep, but they don't move around, and the bass is finally back.  I'll give them a solid test run this week, but it may be that I'll finally be happy in the IEM world.

And with a lot of the good advice MF has given me, I might need to save up and jump from entry level IEMs to a really solid pair this spring.

Then, write on apieceof paper "Are you ready?!!" and hand it to her. She's going to be extremely intrigued at this point, and will almost always say yes. Then...start a game of tic tac toe with her. If you win, gloat (jokingly). If she wins, imply she cheated (jokingly). The key here is to separate yourself from every other guy she's talked to.

No idea if this advice is any good, but I do love it.

I've only dated 1 girl in my life, though, so don't take my reaction too seriously.

Its HBO. So netflix will never have it I'm pretty sure.

The whole tic tac toe thing seems like it could go horribly wrong, lol.

I'm tempted to just sit next to her and say hi, or maybe after class. Then ask her to lunch. And see what happens.

What a great way to spend lunch - delighting in a love story. Just woke up 30 minutes ago and your post already has me relaxed about what the day holds as promised.wink.gif

Glad it worked for you!

I had a long-time girl friend and we did almost everything together for years, and finally one day after a few drinks we both confessed to having pondered the possibility of actually dating....at which point she said that she was afraid that we wouldn't be able to talk to each other the same way if we were actually dating. So we never took that next step....fast forward about 15 years, and now she is married to the guy that had stolen her boyfriend from her 20 years prior! So in the end I think things worked out best for me...lol.

I just recently got caught up on your heady romantic saga and I would dissuade you from taking such a brusque and direct approach. Emotions are complex and must be cultivated over time, how are you supposed to know if she's "the one" from askin her out? You could be incompatible! No, lets take the rational and more scientific approach...

You have to first begin by researching your objet d'jour. Slyly infiltrate her circle of friends so that you are within the fringe of her social network, this way you will not be seen as an interloper and you can still bail out if the situation goes sour. Next, gain access to the group's next social gathering. A house party is ideal as it exudes a very relaxed atmosphere that can help facilitate casual conversations. Set up an icebreaker to initiate contact with your target, I would suggest something noncommittal and innocuous such as, "Sup?" and if she takes the bait, to follow with an open ended question, such as "so how bout them dodgers huh?" it doesn't really matter, you are trying to establish a flow of conversation not deliver an inaugural speech. Close the convo by asking for the deets, something like, "so I post on this site about headphones, how about you? You got FB or something?"

At this point you will have will have "friended" her on cyberspace and be privy to the most banal details of her life. Knowledge is power though, so spend months utilizing this information to carefully construct a facade that will appeal to her most. Insert yourself into her life at any given chance because who wouldn't leap at such a chance? Arm's length from her radiant beauty... 5 hour long conversations where she whines on and on about John McDouche and how she wishes he could be more sensitive and caring... More like you. Could life be any better? Of course not. Research French poetry and prepare a crown of sonnets for her, illustrating your perfect, undying love. It will keep you focused for the long journey ahead, and you can spring it on her when she's weeping in your arms after John McDouche has dumped her. This is your moment soldier, the precise moment when she will realize that it was you alone who's been there for her all along. How could she have been so stupid? You're perfect for each other. You can stop wafting the scent of her hair into your nostrils now, cause she's all yours buddy. Well done!

Or.. Alternatively, you could just like, I dunno, Say hi to her and ask her out for coffee or something

Thanks for the youtube channel suggestions. I'll dive right into them whenever I feel I have the time. Which shouldn't be too often, but often enough to check them out once in a while.

As for the playlist-thing-a-ma-jig, I guess we should be set for MuppetFace to make her first suggestion. The only real question we have in front of us is: how often should we change theme? Also, I never really understood if MuppetFace could keep it in the OP or not, but in case she can't, I can keep track of all the tracks.

I think we should give it a trial week, and see if there's enough interest and time for the participants to pick a song and write something about it in one week, or if we need to extend it a bit. Look at it as a sort of beta-testing period at first, where we iron out the smallish flaws we will eventually find. I'd say a week is a good starting ground, because if we make it a longer period, the submissions will be few and far between and we will start forgetting and well, let's try weekly, m'kay? That is, if MuppetFace is up for it?

  • Artist, title, youtube link
  • Write something about the song
  • Muppetface picks the theme

It works like this: MuppetFace chooses a theme. With inspiration in/from that particular theme, you pick a song to submit, together with a link to it on youtube, followed by something you write about the song. Look at it as writing out a memory, or why you associate it with this particular song, or whatever goes through your head and so on, that is in relation to MuppetFace's theme and/or the song you chose. Simple as that.

Also, let's not forget that we do this for fun, and that it's not a chore or anything like that. I'd say that this also means that there shouldn't be any pressure on anyone involved. If you're not inclined to submit a song this particular theme, feel free to join us next time, and so on.

Without further ado, MuppetFace, go ahead - pick a theme!

This also would be free content for my blog. :P

Of course, if it's okay with you guys. For the record, I've been churning my anime music library and mind for almost every situation...

Haha. No not at all.

It's just that I decided to figure out women my last year of high school, after my last love interest told me that she couldn't love me because I didn't love myself....
