The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 340

I found this beauty in Best Buy today for $7.50. I didn't blink before snatching it off the shelf. I got home and started researching the prices for similar headphone stands...I think I did pretty good on my first purchase...

Ignore the can of deliciousness in the background.

Got an addon for firefox called Lazarus that saves your recent input forms. No more losing my text to a faulty loading webpage or accidental refresh!

Looks like the Harley from Arkham City, the sequel to Arkham Asylum (and like one of the most polished and cinematic "nextgen" videogames evaaarr..??). Certain events in the game can explain her... tougher appearance.

Huh. I didn't even know they sold headphone stands. Hm.

Cary Xciter. I'm happy with it, actually, and it may be more upgraditis than need* that's leading me to look around. On the other hand, it increasingly sounds like DACs in the price range I can budget for have made big improvements in the past couple years, and it might or might not be time to consider what's out there now.

(*Now that I think of it, none of this is a matter of need, is it?)

(edit: 3 000 get)

OK, that would explain why her appearance looked so different to me. I've never played Arkham City so I've never seen that version of Harley Quinn. So what do you think Romy? Would you consider dropping 75 plus bones down for her considering shes a 9 inch Square Enix figurine that's supposedly very posable?

Is City better than Asylum?  I never felt motivated to finish Asylum, although I did play quite far into it.

Yep. There's also a pretty huge twist at the end. Batman made superhero games (and movies) cool again.

If Arkham Asylum was Metroid, then Arkham City is Super Metroid. Both have their appeal, but the sequel has such a grander sense of scale.

As a Batman fan however it just takes it to another level. Never before have I played a superhero game that felt so true to its source. Gliding around the city, finding random acts of injustice to barge in on and use as an excuse to beat people down... it's pure Batman. It just feels so right. The atmosphere is perfect.

Also I'm not kidding when I say it's one of the most polished games of all time. The presentation is practically immaculate.

I watched someone play the first hour of Arkham City; it was like watching a movie play out, perhaps even moreso than the MGS series.

Asylum and City are my wife's favorite games, she can play them over and over again.

The first hour is pretty loaded with expositional scenes since they have to set the stage, but after that the game gives you a lot of freedom to roam as you please. The first game is more of a Metroidvania, but the second feels more like a sandbox style game. Definitely a good game.

I picked it up along with Uncharted 3, Skyward Sword, Rage, and Saints Row 3 in the same approximate time frame so I never got around to beating it. I've got so much backlogged it's just stupefying, because I can't resist the urge to pick up titles on the cheap/day one. I'm trying to kick that habit, so on the slate is Bayonetta, Skyward Sword, Valkyria Chronicles, Demon's Souls and Virtues Last Reward.

LOL. I had originally typed "Metroidvania" and "sandbox" to describe the two games.

Five other gaming thoughts:

1. Bayonetta and Valkyria Chronicles are a lot of fun.

2. Demon's Souls is fun in a masochistic sort of way, though I like Dark Souls even more; I need to play subject myself to it again sometime soon.

3. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is on my list of stuff to check out eventually since I liked the first game, 999, and I'm always looking out for more Vita games.

4. I've got Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch on its way.

5. Most looking forward to Dead Space 3 (February 5th? ) and Bioshock: Infinite (March 26th?) this year. I await Dragon Age III: Inquisition with a sense of dread given how BioWare, once my favorite game developer of all time, has gone down the toilet in the last two years with DA2 and ME3.

The list

biggrin.gif senjou no valkirya was indeed great. When I saw dead space 3 the other day, was thinking whoa. I almost thought you said Dark Siders instead of Dark Souls. Looks like the Infinity Blade series at a glance of the pictures. Looks like you're going to have a lot of fun :0

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are frustrating in an old school, makes-you-work-for-everything sort of way. The enemies are brutal and the environments are treacherous, and when you die (which is often) you lose all your resources unless you can make it back to the spot where you died from one of the few check points in the game and re-collect them. Otherwise if you die again before reaching that spot, they're gone for good. Also the game loves to toy with you, like when you get sprayed by a random mushroom creature and your head starts to swell up gradually until it gets to a point where you can't equip helmets anymore, and the only way to survive is visiting some healer which requires you to backtrack through a really difficult area.

At least you don't die in a two hits like in Ghouls and Ghosts.

Speaking of, I think the three hardest games I've ever played were: Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Magician Lord, and Contra Hard Corps. In more recent times, games like Ikaruga stand out just because of their complexity and the reflexes needed to survive. Also the Mega Man Zero games had a certain old school difficulty, in that they punished you for using power ups unlike a lot of other games that encourage you to use them.
