The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 333

I like to wonder how things will shake out if Sonion and Knowles start developing dedicated tuned separate woofer, midrange, and tweeter drivers in the way that drivers for full-sized speakers are -- intended to be mixed and matched in the way full-sized speakers are. (This is how BA drivers are used now, I know, but iirc for the most part the drivers are all pretty much full-range drive units, some of which happen to be more capable at certain frequency bands, rather than purpose-built for handling them.) Maybe the eventual norm of high-end IEMs will be three or four drivers, but the low-frequency ones will be much larger, or the high-frequency ones will actually be compound drive units with single output ports.

(Edit: 333 GET!)

I keep finding myself staring at the Woo WA7 Fireflies:

As I want to get a small tube amp for my office, this kind of seems ideal (includes a DAC too). Seeing that last picture with a pair of CIEMs has me hopeful that there wont be any audible background noise. Thing is, I really don't care for the other Woo dynamic amps I've tried (including the WA22 which I owned briefly), so I'm a bit hesitant to go that route.

Have you auditioned the Fostex HP-A8 at all?  That seems fairly compact.

Oh, you said tube. My bad!

I've heard a couple different Woo amps now (including the WES electrostatic amp) , and they all seemed to have a "Yo dawg, we heard you liked tube amps..." sound to them. I don't know how else to describe it. They're very nice amps and they look beautiful and there's nothing I can really fault them for w/r/t sound quality -- they fail to appeal to me somehow.

My growing distaste for the sound led me to find my WA22 unattractive after awhile.  Like, my gut reaction when I saw it was "**** that thing."  Shame because I thought it was beautiful for a long time before I heard it.

I second that. Although I don't like to use the terms "tube sound" or "solid-state sound", I think most Woo amps I've heard (and yes, including the WES) present what people refer to as that stereotypical "tubey" sound. Not that tubey sound is always bad, but it doesn't work with all headphones. Not exactly my cuppa tea, either.

Come to think about it, Cary SLI-80 also runs on 10 tubes... at least it didn't sound that "tubey" when I listened to it as a headphone amp.

Soooo... I just sold my Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII since I wasn't using it that much after the Magni arrived... I guess I'm going to also sell my Sennheiser HD600s. I love 'em but I'm not even using them so... they''ll be gone soon!

I want to try the Ultrasone Signature DJs... but I'm actually looking for the sound of the Signature Pros with the same characteristics (i.e. great isolation/no leakage) in a more comfortable package... Does something like that exist?!? (I also have the Mad Dogs which are SUPER comfortable, but sometimes I miss the "fullness" of the Sig Pros...)

To the gamers on the thread, did anyone buy that Studio Ghibli/Level 5 collab, Ni no Kuni?!? I want it!!! (even though I don't have too much time to play and my backlog is ginormous!!!)

I was thinking of ordering it; I like buying JRPGs I never actually play.

Hmm for those that watches the TGS podcast starring Totalbiscuit, Jesse Cox, Dodger and the occasional guest, TB's ravings of Persona 4, and some other games for the Vita really makes me want to buy one, but I know I'll never touched it after 2 weeks.

Anyone here excited about the M8? TBH I only learned about this thing a few minutes ago. I guess my attention is selective.

Also, I can't decide if this comment from the CEntrance guy is intentionally or unintentionally ignorant:

I lost a bid yesterday for Persona 4 + some other extras LOL! It is another game I want to buy. The Vita I find it to be excellent even though it doesn't have as many games as the DS/3DS/PSP. I finished (last month) the game Zero Escape, and it's an AWESOME story-driven puzzle game! I ordered DJ Technika Max last week too..

(and yes... the backlog keeps growing...)

"...I guess my attention is selective."

I can guess it's probably because of the hype it has.

And IMO, that guy is seriously ignorant and need a good slap in the face, regardless of intention.

I find myself playing the Vita a lot more than I imagined. Lumines: Electronic Symphony is still fun, and I've been enjoying Gravity Rush, Zero Escape, and Persona 4. Also thinking about picking up the Vita version of Assassin's Creed 3 even though I lost interest in the series after the first game; the protagonist seems really cool.

I plan on picking up Wrath of the White Witch, yes. Also want to get The Cave

My largest worry... I don't need a real dust collector, what with my Steam library is already a digital one.

Probably it will have that one game that will posh me to the brink and buy one, but for now, there's not one yet (but there's a lot of really compelling games though).

All I've been playing lately is my SNES, mainly Yoshi's Island.  Haven't touched my Vita in months now; I was trying to get my friends back into Monster Hunter the other day, but they were all feeling meh about it.

Ordered Ni no Kuni because why not.

Re: Steam: Yeah, check out my playtimes vs. how many games I own http://steamcommunity.com/id/sarsamis/games?tab=all >_> 0 hours starts about halfway in.
