The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 313

The finish on the TH600 is likely temporary. If you look at the latest photos of it, you'll see places where paint is coming off. Fostex usually has black paint on their OEMs before they get put into production; the D5000 and D7000 are black in their catalogs, and the TH900 was originally finished in black before it got its lovely bordeaux coat. They could be going with a black finish, but it'll likely be a bit different or be in a different material.

The finish on the DX2000 seems more like a final product, given the lettering on the cups. It's not plastic, but either wood that is naturally black and given a matte finish or painted wood. Probably painted, as the DX700 and DX1000 are I believe.

I think the DX2000 may be a minor upgrade over the DX1000 for Chinese markets, similar to the DX700 --> DX800, though it seems a little odd they'd do away with the more reddish tint of the DX1000. Seems like cosmetic upgrades are getting popular again. Thinking of the Sony XBA-4 --> XBA-40.

Regarding those electrostatic headphones, I can't find any info on them. King Sound is indeed a speaker maker, but there's also a Kingsound (one word) headphone store in Hong Kong, so searches get confusing very quickly.

Could be a one-off or a DIY effort. It has a definite DIY stat look to it.

The power box has the King Sound (speaker company) logo on the plate, and the headband doesn't look like something a hobbyist could easily make. The cable looks like it was pulled from a Stax. Intriguing.

Kind of tangentially, this makes me wonder: It's conventional for electrostat headphones to have ribbon cables rather than wound, but why? Is there a technical reason or is it just something that Stax always did and so it became a kind of semiotic that distinguishes electrostats from other types of headphones?

The cable has the same logo as the amp if you look closely.

Also I've seen some pretty amazing DIY stats. The headband could have been pulled from something else, but I'm inclined to think it's a prototype given all the logos.

Edit: There's also some literature in the background that looks like it features these on it, so whoever made them wants people to know about them. Can't find any scans of those little booklets however.

Good catch. Yeah: Photo of the headphones and amp box, titled, "Listening to the [something]" -- hard to make it all out because Huddler's new mobile UI doesn't let me pinch-zoom on images.

In other news: Over the weekend, I found the domestic-stock cable that Hidition spotted me when I got the NT 6 Pro. It had been lost while packing for the flight home and rematerialized this weekend in my toiletries kit, of all places. I'm sure I put it there on purpose for reasons that totally made sense at the time. (To catch everyone up... Hidition has two different stock cables: A lightweight cable similar to those used by Heir, Ultimate Ears, etc, and a heavier premium cable. Domestic orders within Korea get the lightweight cable; the premium cable is available at a surcharge. Foreign orders get the premium cable and the surcharge is included in the (higher) price.)

Anyway: I like the lighter cable just for its complete lack of cable noise. The premium cable is incredibly sensitive to being banged and brushed. In fact I've gotta say it's the noisiest headphone cable I've ever used. Unfortunately the audio quality of the lighter cable is not as good, and the difference is profound.

Okay, now I'm a little obsessed...

Seems to say "Listen to True ...."  ...and I can't quite make out that last word. That's the best I could do turning up the detail and highlight filters.

I believe it says "Listen to the Emperor". KingSound have a discontinued speaker model with that name.

Well, darn it. Jaben posted the FX100 up and the SRP is 388 SGD ~ 319 USD. The FX200 is 498 SGD ~ 406 USD. I guess my interest has really faded away.

In my dream last night I founf a vintage DAC which was covered in brightly coloured felt and powered by about 50 9 volt batteries, the insides were heavily corroded so I started cleaning it with a toothbrush. I cant remember if I ate any cheese last night...

Do they offer it for audition? If so, maybe you could just go and try them, and then order them through Amazon.jp? That would be most sensible IMO.

Pulled the trigger on LCD-2s after finally getting the setup I wanted, bamboo, vegan, box, balanced stock cable. I've heard these in the past, but almost always on warm tube amps. Thought they were too dark. Will be interesting to see what I can get out of them with the Bryston and perhaps a silver cable later on.

So, today we had a little snow again. 50 cars and 50 trucks, according to the news, are involved in one single big crash. Many are hurt, some are dead. My thoughts go to the affected.

Also, I've been ill these past couple of days now. Today I'm just out of energy, yesterday was worse though. I'm still undcided on whether or not I should call in sick tomorrow as well, despite having actually been able to eat (and keep it) today.
