The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 272

Re: aquarium stuff: thanks!

As for the trees: I just really really like plants and have some interest in interior design despite apathy issues preventing me from realizing it any real end.  I also don't have a yard atm, so yeah.  I like things that real and it doesn't get much realer than life.  The one really large palm (for an indoor plant) I have is doing really well too!  I think its branch count has doubled since I got it in May.  The branches grow out of the base as long pointed stalks and then open up, revealing the leaves.  It's quite the thing to behold.

I should get some creeping charlies.

Besides my awkwardness Xmas eve with my grandmother and father kind of sucked.  I don't feel like elaborating on why atm, but it seems like my grandmother's more distant children have some sort of grudge with her and I'm at a loss as to why; she's genuinely one of the most wonderful people I've ever known and, well, you'll just have to take my word for it that I've known other wonderful people (...like you fine folk?) to base that standard off of.

My father seemed upset most of the night and I can understand why, but also don't feel like elaborating on it.  There just isn't much love in the air here I'm afraid, or at least not of the festive sort.

Not looking forward to tomorrow.

Jilly (grandma's cat) is doing that awful howl again and for once I think it's appropriate...

Yeah me too, no sleepy sucks especially when you have to work today

On a rather mysterious note the CLAS db is nowhere to be found on the ALO site. I'm beginning to wonder if ALO and Cypher Labs had a falling out over all those defective solos that had to be sent back. Anything having to do with the Solo is completely removed. I wonder what went down?

Maybe they've decided to ditch it and push a high-end DAP instead.

(Seems to be left unmentioned: It's an iRiver product, and Astell & Kern are next-door neighbors to Bartles & Jaymes.)

I actually quite like the AK100. I like the way it feels and handles. It's too bad about the output Z, but at least the Tzar can handle it.

My twin brother and I have a tradition wherein we exchange audio-related gifts. This year he got me the Ultimate Ears UE900.

I'm really liking the sound of these. The mids in particular are just delicious. They're also super comfortable, and the packaging is better than UE's previous efforts. Biggest crit thus far is that they seem to lack a bit in terms of dynamic range. They also seem poorly suited for low-volume listening.

Overall I'd say they're extremely listenable, the type of earphones that can disappear and that you can just forget about for a few hours.

Don't know a thing about the AK100, to be honest. I figured I wasn't the first discoverer.

The name is amusing, though.

Then again, this morning I've been applying heat shrink with a hair dryer called the Kuru Kuru 700. I'm easily amused.

It's looks really nice, and I'm willing to bet it sounds it too. Nice to see that it actually supports 2 64gb microsd cards as well. Talk about a $1000 setup after buying 2 cards and a portable amp, but 148gb of flash memory in such a small device seems nice.

By the way, if anyone feels like sharing their thoughts / opinions about their head-fi experience in 2012, please do. For instance:

1. What were the highlights for you? Your favorite experiences? Best gear? Worst gear?

2. Thoughts on trends this year? Predictions for next year?

3. Plans for next year; what would you like to audition? What are you most looking forward to being released? Any goals?

My head-fi life in 2012 has been great. Overall, I've made new connections, and got to experience things I never thought I'd be able to as a student. James444's loaner tours were pretty much the highlight of my year, and gave me perspective on gear that I'd previously have to only imagine.

The Piano Forte VIII really struck a chord with me. It presented some music in a way that made me have to close me eyes and listen to the music, not the phones. The open nature and the lack of a seal just amplified that experience.

As for the FI-BA-SS, I caught a bit of flack for how I compared it to the GR07. That was interesting. rolleyes.gif

My award for worst gear of the year goes to the T-Peos H-100. It's the most ridiculous sounding pair of headphones I've ever listened to. It was so bad that I had to buy it a second time just to be sure.

2013 is shaping up to be the year of the hybrid. With the H-200, ASG-2, GR08 ( I still refuse to call it the V7007) and AX-9, it should be pretty interesting.

I kind of did, but I'm sure I'll have more to add on trends and such later

Mom cancelled Decemberween dinner.

I had a dream last night where I was Dracula, but it was unbeknown to my group of "lesser" vampires who were traveling to the Unova region on the Battle Subway (Pokemans stuff).  We were in some sort of dispute with the Jem'Hadar and seemed to be evenly matched since I was concealing my power.  After awhile I became aware of some kind of omni-present static interference that made everything around me feel artificial.  I became weary of this and used some telekinetic ability I had to make the Jem'Hadar literally fall apart.  None of the other vampires knew I had done it and I later left their group as they started to question my loyalty (for reasons I can't remember).

A century prior to all of this my ghouls invaded NYC, but the EDF were able to fend them off.  "Now, in NEW! Dolby 3D 7.1, YOU can relive the experience for just $9.99!  Order yours today!!!"

I arrived at a meet being held on my campus and some guy stopped me at the door to show me his DIY amp.  It looked like 3 Beta 22's assembled in a plastic shipping crate and he told me it cost over $5,000 in materials.  When I asked what cans he used he proudly said the RS1i's and then, either because he knew I thought that was retarded (to spend so much on an amp for less than stellar cans) or because he was suddenly aware of my identity, he started snarling at me.  I wasn't afraid of him though, and after realizing that he ran off, leaving the amp.

Through the windows I could see a pair of D7100's (it seems like these are becoming a trope for me) plugged into a WA6 and felt as though they were looking at me.  They were nowhere to be found after I entered the building, however.  I was very confused and agitated by all of this until, as if he had read my mind, a Cistercian monk handed me a pair of HD800's to consider.  The reflection of some unknown light source, which seemed to be moving in a circle above me, in that ring with the driver info became so captivating I couldn't even think to look up and figure out what it was.  As the light started to accelerate all the chatter in the room became focused on the back of the driver and felt as though it were being beamed onto my forehead.  This excited me, causing blood to rush to my gums which, in turn, caused them to secrete some kind of venom.

I think I woke up after that.

Ahh i need to be reminded of this agasin to properly type on a real keyboard, not on my tablet. An interesting ride to say the least, considering that I've only started to become 'serious' back in Oct 2011. I also seem to have had a nightmare last night, a dream that i can remember after waking up, ever since the last one so long ago. Kind of intriguing in a morbid sort of way, and I'm honestly surprised that I want more of it, nightmares or otherwise.
