Ri-facking-diculous. I didn't expect this book to cost $100. That caught me off guard.

Bought a used hard cover version of that book for ~$20 shipped. It's a really good book. I'd advise you too look around a little to see if you can buy used.

Related to that, here is my entire library as of now. Slowly expanding.

My dad has that book, but it's a PITA to bring that along with me to Moscow considering I have a lot of other things to carry. Besides, that specific one seems to be a gift to him, so....

Sigh need to look around for a used one. Could really use it last year.

It's not that hard... Amazon UK seems to have them a lot used. And that also resulted in me looking at some new gadget/college bags. Tempting, but not tempting enough in my current economic state.

We've discussed long shows before, and of course music...

I watched a 7 hour presentation of Wagner's Opera "Siegfried" over the last two days, filmed at the Met in NYC.  Opera is completely out of character for me, but I thought Siegfried was pretty epic.

I had a 4th-gen 32GB Touch for a year and a half, and I enjoyed that a lot....both for loading my tunes on it, or using Pandora or Digitally Imported when I was in wifi range. I never tried the line-out from it, but the headphone-out was decent, and there are several good EQ apps available if you need one. I traded it away after getting one of the Samsung Galaxy players with the 5" screen, and after using that I couldn't go back to the 3.5" Touch.

That said, the Galaxy is a step down in sound...... it has fantastic battery life, though the wifi reception is also a step down from the Touch. It's big enough that it stays home, and if I'm not watching a video in bed with it, then I mostly use it plugged into either my Sony ghetto blaster or my old stereo, running the aforementioned Pandora or DI apps.

If I am just relaxing and strictly listening to music I own, I use an iPod Classic--LOD--FiiO E11....it's basically my desktop rig, since I am not exactly flush with cash....lol.   If I am listening to music in the background as I am doing other things around the house, then my phone is what I use the most....I have a 32GB card in it and of course I have those same two streaming apps on it. On the road, when I want to preserve the phone's battery in case I actually need to use it as a phone, or do some emailing/texting, the Zip comes into play.

I've also had Sony and Cowon players, but I haven't had any of the more eclectic ones that you read about in this forum, that the general public are unaware of.

I just rambled on there a bit, I realize.....but perhaps I can be more specific with a recommendation with a better idea of when and how you'd be using a player, what kind of files you would want to use on it, etc.

I need lots of storage built-in or via an SD slot or something.  I hate touchscreens and "all-in-one" devices like smartphones/touch/galaxy player.  I'd like at least a para-graphic EQ.  The Classic + Rockbox looks good except for mechanical HDD being prone to damage.  Do the new HDDs have better shock resistance these days?

Just responding to things like that has become a joke in itself.  They almost compete to sound the most foreveralone.

Well, there's always a pet fox, there's a breeder of domesticated foxes just a couple counties over from me.

While your at it why not get a Tiger and a Lion? ;).

Or a Liger while you're at it.  BTW Magick, if you do happen to get the Corniche AND a Liger (or other big cat), don't forget to take a photo of you in the driver's seat with the cat in the back.  That would make the best.  avatar.  ever.

Because it is.  You can't use your acquaintances or youself as a litmus here.  People of higher intelligence tend to congregate.  It's not until to take a big step back from your world that you appreciate what it means to be a few standard deviations above most of the population.

Common sense is neither innovative nor sexy, so it doesn't occupy very high placement in Apple's priority totem.

Pretty much yeah.  And if you don't think you need what they got, there's always marketing.

Hey, just reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask for a while now.  IYO, are homosexual women and heterosexual men attracted to similar physical attributes?  Yes, I understand that personal preferences are a huge factor.  But as far as overall physical attraction goes, I would think that there is certainly a fair amount of overlap.

I can't say for sure about the shock resistance....I am careful (read:paranoid)  with mine, but my sister has had an old  30GB 5G Video since it was current, and hers still works and she's dropped it at least a few times over the years. The 64GB microsdxc cards can be formatted as FAT32 and be usable in many devices now, assuming their firmware doesn't have file limitations. Rockbox eliminates that file limit, of course....so if you could live with the Zip, one of those cards could be made to work in it.

Now if you planned to load your player with lossless, then the file limitations are less of a worry....that would open up the possibility of a Cowon J3 or X9 with 32GB internal and the possibility of adding a 64GB card. I had an 8GB D2 with a 32GB card a while back, and with high-bitrate lossy files, I just barely squeezed in under the file limit. Supposedly, a full size128GB SDXC can be put in a D2 and Rockbox installed to run off the card, but I don't know how stable that port is, and of course that's an old-school resistive touchscreen.

The only device I know of with 64GB internal and a card slot is the Samsung Galaxy S3 cell phone, which is not the kind of device you say you're looking for. Sadly, without modding, the only real big storage players are the Classic and Cowon X7 with HDD's, unless you want to try one of the Archos mini-tablets, which I've heard aren't the best in SQ or reliability ( I have no personal experience with them).

My brother had a girlfriend who was bi but (according to her) 90/10 towards women and we used to talk about 'chicks' almost like she was one of 'the guys'...

I have exactly the opposite problem with the iBuds - They fall out of my ears because I can't get them in my ears. It feels like I'm trying to jam a golf ball in my head. *If* I can get them to stay in, the pain is horrible. I have the same problem with any "bud" style earphone that does not have an actual tip that can be inserted. I have no problem with IEMs from several different mfrs.

So, today I received an email from them, pretty much saying that the recruiter and CEO of the company thought well of me and my skills and would make the recommendation to the board that they'll hire me. :)

I think the other extreme is women that are attracted to "butches".  I have a gay (or slightly bi) female friend whose girlfriend is a muscular warehouse worker who dresses in men's clothes.  She's attracted to women who are as manly as possible.

White Light/White Heat is such a great album. Maybe I'm just feeling euphoric right now but it doesn't sound like there's a thing out of place on it. And it's not even the album with "Sweet Jane", "Heroin", "Chelsea Girls", and so on...

I like to have as much of my music with me at all time so I transcode to V0 for my DAP if necessary.  I was using a D2+ with a 32gb card (got the Zip because the D2+ broke...) and barely made in under the file limit.

Also I liked the resistive touchscreen.  You can actually use it while you're wearing gloves.  Plus you can use a stylus with it which is quite useful considering most touchscreen UI elements seem to be sized for 5 year old fingers or something.

A player is going to get dropped eventually now matter how careful you are with it, but I think I'll give the give the Classic a look in the future when it's rockbox port is more fully developed.  I guess I'll have to stick to the Zip and get 64gb uSD card for now.

Thanks for the info though.

Quite a spectrum it seems.
