I'm not a fan of touch screens. I dislike using the display as the input device, getting fingerprints all over it and whatnot, especially when you're out and about.

I don't mind having a smartphone but the problem is that mobile internet infrastructure is not developed here. Maximum what you can do is to browse internet with crazy slow speed which is not fun at all.

I can't type very well on those either.  They're better than touch screens but they're still too damn small.  I don't want to type, send emails, or read documents on it.  I just want a good phone with a cell modem for my laptop/netbook in it but that product doesn't seem to exist.

I don't think it's very efficient at all.  It might take up less space but I think it's far more cumbersome to actually use.

WRT your "poke with anything" argument, those types of screens (resistant touch screens) severely limit what can be done via touch. The advent of capacitive screens flung doors wide open for developers to make amazing applications.

If you're deadset on a keyboard, then just get yourself a Droid 4: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-57373411-251/motorola-droid-4-hands-on-awesome-keyboard-blistering-4g-lte/

Otherwise, your argument is invalid.

I have a Samsung Stratosphere (Verizon) and I really don't like it. I got it specifically because it has a slide out Qwerty keyboard, but the keys are small, and badly placed, and too many important things require alt keys. The keyboard was the best part of the old Blackberry devices - I have never used anything better for mobile email.

Seriously?  Where?  I don't mean just a slide out keyboard either.  I mean something that's primarily controlled via buttons.

I see it the other way around.  At least on a phone.  A 10" tablet makes a much better case for fancy multi-touch screens and what not.  On a phone or a DAP I think it just gets in the way.  It's only of benefit to what I see as the "phone's" secondary functions and comes at the expense of it's primary function.

I don't want a keyboard at all.  Physical or touch.  I just want a good old fashioned keypad and D-pad.  If I'm allowed to dream I'd also like a scroll wheel like my late, beloved Rio Karma...

Good Lord, man.

Here's your solution. Get yourself an ordinary dumbphone like the one I posted earlier, then buy a 4G hotspot from Verizon or Sprint like these: http://www.pcworld.com/article/255695/4g_mobile_hotspot_face_off_atandt_verizon_lte_hotspots_fight_to_a_draw.html

That should satisfy you. If not, hfuinasfjjpbqvwiobdio

You mean like this and this? Controlled only via buttons. Can be found on Ebay, for example.

I'd like to.  The only problem is that it's a work phone.  I pretty much had to port my personal number to the work phone to save money.  frown.gif

When/if we hire someone new I'll see if I can convince my boss to give my S3 to to the new person and get me a one of those hotspots and a normal phone.  I should have asked for that in the first place but I didn't think it would be this annoying.  OTOH as far as I can tell no one makes good, normal phones anymore.  Or at least they don't market them here here in the States.  I spent a lot of time looking about a month or two ago but I didn't find anything I liked and was in production or was sold by a website that didn't look shady as all hell.  Pretty much everything I found was either one of those giant 'soap-bars' with huge print/type for people with bad vision or very cheap looking/feeling flip phones that were like 3/4" thick and not very pocket friendly.  I still miss my RAZR V3 but it's GSM and our company's carrier is CDMA.  Plus the battery is like 7/8 dead and new ones don't seem to have been manufactured in a while.  Since there's no such thing as NOS lithium batteries because they slowly loose maximum capacity even if they're never used I don't have many options.

I'll fully admit I'm a very difficult to please nitpicker but this really wasn't meant to start an argument.  It was just a bit of off-the-cuff rambling

Ebay kinda make me nervous for something like that but I suppose it's worth a shot.  Do you know any good sellers?

MF, did you post your long term impressions of the Flat-4 anywhere? Looked in the locked thread, there seems to be nothing of the sort, other than a comment about its build quality and a couple of posts about its sound quality. I'm in that time of the week where anything is a good read, especially something that I'm not going to get. tongue.gif

I don't know. For example, this top-rated seller from the US. He has Motorola RAZR V9 which may suit you, Samsung S3600 or even the simplest Nokia 100. Look for top rated sellers with lots of sold items and positive feedback.

Someone posted some... interesting impressions of the LCD-2s wherein he talks about people close to him and what they think of them. I feel really awkward watching the YouTube videos he posted of his wife singing along to some music. Apparently she doesn't know he posted those videos online for people all over the world to see. At this point, I can't help but wonder about the motivations and thought processes that go on with some people. There's a definite voyeuristic quality at work, someone one sees only hinted at with unboxing videos and shots of peoples rigs at home. Headphone listening is a very private activity by its very nature. In that sense, there's almost an exhibitionist quality when it comes to making that private moment public.

Did a quick search in the old thread for "Flat-4" and came up with these:

Thank you for that, though I found them on my cursory search before except for the one that you compared to the PFE232. There really are not that many people, or at least Head-fiers that have them, it seems.
