Rumor has it the Plenue will be 999 USD.

Back from the meet. Amazing lineup, despite being small: off the top of my head, DITA The Truth White and Black are both amazing-er than the 334TG and Shure 846 for me, Alpha Dogs is too damn big (don't have 1/4" 1/8" adapter to try the sound...), ZX1 is amazing in everything except no SD card, which is a deal breaker for me, and AK240 is useless to me because I can hear jack **** of any difference and I don't use super high ultra HD magic files. Met the DITA guys (they're half-countrymen!) and other amazing people.

Winner: DITA The Truth, which is what I am aiming for my next purchase.

I have never heard of this thing, and I wish I never had cause there's a possibility that it may exist in my future :l

Anyhow, really impressed by the FX850 at the moment. With James' mod in place, it's really at the forefront of best phones I've heard to date, and kinda recemented my love of dynamic drivers

want to here more on how Dita is better than 334 and 846. I am not a fan of 334 but really like 846. FYI, 846 is only really good with white filters, not the standard blue filters.

Well, both the 334 and 846 are bassier that what I liked, the 846 more so than both.

The 846 owner did say that he used the normal filter, and said "the treble filter gives more treble, sure, but it cuts off the bass by around half, made it flat and lost the Shure sound" paraphrased. Small SS to, I expected it to be at least a bit better than most IEMs I have.

And to me, the 334 SS isn't that terribly amazing compared to what I have, and the imaging is kind of disappointing. In fact, I'd say that the 334 is disappointing as whole; it's not the vocals god of IEM that I was hoping for. Mind you that whatever I read on it might be fuzzy beyond recognition.

I dunno, I'd say that it's the spiritual successor to my Chiri-chan, a.k.a. the Sony MDR 7550 / EX888ST. It has the same signature that I liked in Chiri-chan, but in every way better. It just sounds right. Wish I have more time with all three of them, since even I'm not satisfied with what I wrote to explain myself. I felt like my phone + UHA4 combination isn't doing the 334 and 846 any credit, but then the DITA just sounds so good even on that. And I'm trying to minimalize anyway.

Caveat: all audition are in meet condition (albeit a small one), max time around 15 minutes in my ears, and only mp3 files were used from my phone (albeit a phone with fair phone out).

PS: comfort is best on the DITA, followed by 334 and 846 tied. I said to the DITA guys, it's so comfortable that I'm even ready to sleep with them in my ears.

Listening at meets can be helpful for getting a very general sense of how something behaves, but only if you're familiar with everything upstream, including the music. It's also not going to give you a sense of what it's like to live with something on a day-to-day basis. Granted, I don't think you should ever have to struggle to like something, but I'm definitely a believer in impressions culled from more of a long term experience.

For one thing, my mood changes day to day. A brief audition is often just as much a reflection of how I'm feeling.

For another thing, your frame of reference dramatically changes based on what you've been listening to beforehand. Transitioning from the UERM to the TG! 334 for instance makes the latter sound very thick. However transitioning from the TG! 334 once I'm used to it back to the UERM, the latter sounds very thin. Likewise the SE845 would probably sound more bassy to me if I was listening to something more bass shy beforehand; generally speaking though I don't consider the SE846 (with the normal or treble filters) an overly bassy IEM.

Also I find that brighter and more sparkly signatures convey a sense of excitement and more of a "wow factor" to certain folks. They also seem more neutral at first blush. Over time though I find they can become fatiguing and somewhat limited in their application. It's what I call the "SR-009 effect" because I've know six audiophiles now who have purchased the SR-009 after a brief audition, only to turn around and sell it after a few months for those very reasons.

Edit: Though ironically I've started to really like the SR-009 again because I found the perfect matching amp for it.

Fair warning. FWIW, on the way to the meet, I didn't listen to anything, the first thing I listened to was the DITA, followed by the 334, another DITA (well it's actually the same model but with an upscaled, cost-no-object cable) and then the 846. And there's something in between those, but I didn't manage to write it down.

so my headphone port is officially completely dead. As good of an opportunity as this is, I can't afford a nice usb amp/dac right now. Does anyone know of a super cheap, generally decent sounding usb audio jack?

Behringer uca222, about 20 bucks and worth 5 times that much.

Which amp do you like the best with the SR-009?
