The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 141

I got a newer pair of HE-500's from Hifiman and they seem to be voiced a bit differently from my older ones.  The highs are smoother and there's a little more weight on the low end.  I've also noticed that the pads have foam rings between the, um, pad parts and the cloth screening, which may account for this difference in voicing.  I'm not sure if I like this or not!  I mean, this FR is probably more "correct," but it's less unique.  I don't want all of my headphones to sound "correct." I might mess with the pads later.

I am liking this, though: http://soundcloud.com/joyful-noise-recordings/talk-normal-cover

I've been so damn tired lately and it seems to have nothing at all to do with my schedule or how much sleep I get.

I figured.  I just glanced at the machine translation since my Japanese sucks.

If it was real I'd like to know where Google was training their algorithm to pick that one up...

One way could be when people correct the translations when people use Google Translate to manually translate text. I've seen an improvement of grammar at least in automated page translation in Russian, from whatever limited grammar I understand.

Apple's event was such a blow today. I didn't expect that there would be so much going on.

Competitors to Apple should go to their drawing boards again. On the other hand all those Retina display thingies are expensive.

Someone posted this in the anime thread. http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2012/10/in-japan-anyone-can-be-a-holographic-pop-star/263927/

Haven't read all the way yet (this would be my morning transit read) but I think it's a more interesting thing to share. *ahem*

Everyone feast your eyes below on a headphone that companies like Sennheiser, Fostex and Audio Technica can only dream of ever producing

The SpongeBob SquarePants Headphone

Now that's an audiophile headphone if I ever saw one. Heck as an added bonus the form factor seems to be sturdier then most other audiophile grade headphones. Now that's a real plus.

Count these in too :D (Click to show)

Now if only they were to scale XDD

Is it bad that I want that solely because they are using an anime mascot of some sort? Does that mean that their marketing is successful? It even said it's tuned for anime songs. SO the conclusion is I must have it. Damn the FXZ200.

OTOH you might have to spend more if you want one that doesn't need any work though.  The drivers will pretty much last forever if you don't blow them up but mine needed a new headband, had a break in the cable (fortunately near the top so I just cut off about a foot and rewired it), and I think the diodes and/or caps on the self bias circuit are shot and need replacement since it leaks away pretty fast if nothing is playing.

Hehe.  As long as you recognize it it's ok to have some fun.

What does tuned for anime songs even mean though?

Maybe it will be smooth enough to tame the likes of K-ON? ;p

I'm seriously underwhelmed, I'm glad I sold my AAPL when I did. The iPad mini is priced too high, they've missed the market. The new 27" iMac is gorgeous, will be getting one of those, and a Mac Mini for HTPC stuff.

I just finished watching the keynote and I agree with you. If they had launched the new iPad mini 75 to 100 bones cheaper I think they could have socked it to Android real good. Whether it can gain traction still remains to be seen though. I still remember when the first iPad was first announced and all the tech blogs were calling it a piece of crap and all the Fandroids were laughing their heads off. Three years later nobodies laughing anymore. I remember after the first iPhone was announced Ballmer of Microsoft during various interviews was openly laughing at Jobs and you only had to read between the lines to realize Ballmer was calling Jobs an idiot. Years later whose the idiot now? Something else I noticed I didn't like, the new full blown iPad now has the new lightening connector which means bad news for some of our fellow enthusiest friends on these boards. New iPad connector means no more 30 pin connector which means no more DAC bypass which really sucks. The only product now left with the 30 pin is the Classic and the iPad2 and at the rate the old pin connector is being fazed out it wouldn't surprise me if those began to disappear in another 6 to 9 months. On the plus side, I agree the new iMacs, MacBooks, and Mac Minis look fabulous.

interesting the only apple products I have in my house are the only ones left with a 30 pin........

I still cant believe apple did actually launch an 7 inch iPad I believe Steve Jobs once said "The iPad is as small as we can comfortably go"

This is a bit jaw dropping. MIT researchers develop a camera that captures 1,000,000,000,000 Frames/Second, which is fast enough to see how photons travels through space over time. This also means that in the future, something like reverse raytracing will be possible: ie, it will be possible to see hidden objects by capturing reflections of light from occluded surfaces.

Hmm I'm underwhelmed as well, IMO the iPad mini is in no man's land and designed mostly not to compete with the New iPad, as one would expect.  iPad Mini has no real advantages over the other 7" tablets on the market unlike it's bigger brother, and still comes at a price premium.  That wont stop Apple marketing calling the new design "revolutionary" or some other hype.

That's disappointing about the new connectors.  I agree the Apple laptops are fantastic, architects and creative professionals love them, they are just such beautiful objects, and actually have advantages over competing laptops to justify their price.

Personally I'm waiting for the Microsoft tablets, if they can run desktop applications this would be fantastic and really make iPad look like a [expensive] toy by comparison.

They're worth it, I love my STAX, but some people don't want to, or can't, spend that much. For them, the ESP/950s are a real gem.

Good to hear, I bought my HE-6 mostly as a poor man's STAX, but the treble of the O2's is just so much more delicate and airy, really like speakers.  If I were to buy another headphone I would want to be able to experience that STAX treble, how do the ESP/950 compare to the 007 treble?
