The diary entries of a little girl in her 30s! ~ Part 2 - Page 137

The political environment of totalitarian rule is an essential context for the gladiator/arena combat narrative scenario. Corporatist states, such as in Rollerball, are functionally the same thing to those outside the chambers of power. Without it, the story more or less ends when the leading character gets out of the arena; with it, the leading character gets to find himself continuing to find greater complexity in the society and ruling structure -- in gaming terms, more enemies and bigger bosses. In Spartacus and Rollerball, the leading character is a seasoned veteran of gladiatorial combat; in Battle Royale and Hunger Games, the leading character is a school-aged girl.

Again, I'm not saying there's no plagiarism. Having read neither Hunger Games nor Battle Royale (though I've seen the BR movie), I'm not going to take a position on whether there is any. But the evidence you're citing is poor.

I can't tell whether you're citing the case of Таня Гроттер as a funny counterpoint, or as a complaint that the west has ordained itself as the sole arbiter of what gets to be considered plagiarism. Either way, it's diluting your BR/HG argument in the eyes of those you're trying to persuade.

A friend of mine, frosh in college, was wildly drunk. He has some depression problems and it came out very strongly when he drank so much. Somehow he got into a fight with police and hit one of the police. The only reason he wasn't arrested was because he was so drunk, the cops just wanted him to get home and friends escorted him back to his room.

Now, it looks very bad to me, but I wanted to know if anyone knew exactly what might happen to my friend? None of us can get through to him.

Is he depressed because of a girl?

Regardless of the cause, it sounds like it would be good for him to go and talk to some sort of a counselor. The problem would be to get him to do it and not see it as a failure or as some sign of weakness. Depression is definitely not something for him to try to tough out on his own or to self medicate.

Congrats Coq de Combat! It's great to hear that you were able to get a job that allows you to live a little, you deserve it biggrin.gif

The MSI GT70 ONE looks like a really enticing computer. Its matte display is excellent, and for those that care it has among the best laptop speakers on the market; and interestingly, a dedicated headphone amplifier. Its steel series chiclet keyboard looks well designed and its battery life is very close to the 7 Gamer, with NotebookCheck reporting 4 hours of web browsing at 67% brightness. If I bought it I would get this model, which is identical in case and components to the top spec $2500 model you mentioned without the extra 4GB of RAM, GTX 680M, or 2 mSATA SSD's:

That said, the GT70 is spec'd slightly better than the 7 Gamer for the same price, while being fully upgradeable, which is impressive. Given the laptop's size/weight (slightly larger yet lighter) and design in comparison to the 7 Gamer, do you think taking it around with me would be viable?

Overall, its starting to look like everything I wanted within my price range, and with little compromise. I know the way I change my decision whenever we talk is hilarious, but your insight is just that helpful to me wink.gif

So jgray how are you enjoying your MDR-7550s? They continue to grow on me. Absolutely loving them paired with my DX100/T1 Amp and Studio V 3rd ANV and Triad L3. Killer combos. Love how spacious and detailed it is. In no way offensive on the treble while still maintaining the extension and articulation :).

Can't say I have a lot of chance to use them now. Windy autumn makes it even more useless to use when I'm not expecting to go anywhere by Metro. Using it while expecting to use the Metro is even more idiotic. And that leaves only when I'm in front of my laptop. Which usually means that I'd rather use my T50RP or MS1i. But I do sometimes use it when I'm in front of my laptop, and it's great. Used it mostly for talkshows and stuff though. Rarely for music anymore since my T50RP is just way more better.

Are the T50RPs modded? I hear they are pretty mediocre without modding them but still a great value...

I use my 7550's for monitoring and music listening at home. They are definitely my 'critical listening' earpieces. :3
