Red cherry MX switches aren't... "tactile" per se since they are linear switches and have no bumps to make them click loudly (and to tactically tell you that you triggered the key). If you do hear "clack", than that probably could mean you're bottoming. Of course this is on the assumption that you mistook red cherry MX for blue/brown cherry MX. I'm sorry if I wrongly assume though.

True, but there's a tactile feel to it when it bottoms out, that just isn't there with scissor or dome based switches. The clack comes from bottoming out, yes. That's also one reason rings would in fact be pretty silencing on this keyboard.
