BTW DF, was it your birthday recently?  Sorry, been very spotty reading threads lately as work has got me tied up in knots.  If so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  beerchug.gif

Yeah I turned 42 on the 27th of Sept and thanks. I just came back from the customary Sunday birthday lunch with my folks. If was a nice time.

Wow, you're older than me!  For some reason, I have it in my head that most everyone in here is younger than me.  That lunch thing sounds like a nice tradition.

There's a Chinese tradition that my family likes to hold on to where everyone eats noodles on a person's birthday.  Supposed to symbolize longevity (some razor thin reasoning about the length of noodles and what not).  Prob is - with the exception of a very few select dishes - I don't like noodles.  frown.gif

o.O damn why is it so hard to hate that damn company......

Happy B-day!

You're still younger than me though, by almost 3 months. wink.gif

I have a habit of nicknaming people once I feel comfortable with them. Almost everyone who I consider close to me has a nickname. Sometimes they're simple but sometimes they're pretty extravagant. Does anyone else do that?

I can't decide whether or not I want to just ignore the latest avatar fad or try to photoshop Kyle MacLachlan and Scottie together...

I had a dream the other night where I was wondering around in the alleys of my old neighborhood and I saw an older man in a Hawaiian shirt who, from afar, looked just like Tyll.  I went up to say hi and realized he was just some random drunkard; the resemblance to Tyll was still there, but he had a mole and quite a bit of wrinkling in his face.  He turned to me, pointed at a tire, and asked "WHATTA THE ****'S THYAT!?"

"That?  It's a tire..."

"OH YEAAH? WHATSIT DOING HERE SMART GUY?"

"I don't know.  People just leave things in the alley sometimes."

He then put his hand on my shoulder, told me I was a good kid, and wandered off.

I hadn't said it yet so I'll say it now: Happy birthday and good listening, DigitalFreak. You're our favorite intercapped audiophile bus driver!

It's a tradition in Korea too. Speaking as somebody who likes noodles, I don't mind this tradition in the slightest. I prefer it to birthday cake.

I love noodles. Especially fried noodles with Aloha-shoyu mixed with Siracha hot sauce :). I use to eat too much of it though when I was young lol. Started having some issues so significantly cut back (spicy food). :P.

In other news, surgery on the video iPod is a tentative success: New battery and 120 gb solid-state drive.

The present irony is that the iPod has more free space than there is room on the computer to back it up. So for the time being it's going to have to be capped at around 45gb until I finish setting up the new household network RAID.

So far I'm pleasantly surprised by the speed with which it can copy data -- looking like it'll take roughly 40 minutes to copy 32 GB -- previously that would have taken well over an hour. And this isn't a particularly high-spec SSD. It's obvious now that the mechanical hard drive in the iPod Video was a significant drag on the system overall.

I plan to try Rockbox again, but not until I've used the new hardware with the default iPod system for a few while to shake everything out. Otherwise debugging will get really tricky.

I got a clear faceplate along with the new battery, to replace the current scratched-up one and because, hey, who wouldn't want to see a lot of bare circuitry? It didn't fit properly and I didn't feel like doing the surgery necessary to convince it to, so the faceplate will go back in its safety baggie for a future attempt.

I'm trying to flowchart my crazy pre-amp/processor right now.

It's going to get complicated...

Cassette Schwarzenegger strikes again. I'm liking the updated retro-80s futurism.

I thought it was Dok?  Or is that for New Year?  Naeng Myun just happens to be one of the few noodle dishes that I like.  smile.gif
