Yup, Mupps did it in March.  It's an honor really, as only HF elite and other such luminaries (Tyll, Steve, etc.) are honored.  smile.gif

There is no need for apologies.....

and no I didn't find you rude in any way.....

my reason for apologies is as in all long going threads(not talking about head-fi only) I've seen people making a close bond with each other and not wanting others to intrude.....

and then Idsynchrono confused me.......

still am confused a little though....

lets not ruin the mood by this kind fo talk though......

I am happy to be a part of this thread and the head-fi community!!!!!

Dude, Lee, we get you had a bad experience. Bringing it up every single chance you can is just obnoxious. Srsly.

Move on, let the healing commence.

Light some scented candles.

Seriously though. Yuck at those matte face plates.

Yeah, I didn't care for them much at first, but in person they're actually quite nice. They've been using those types of plates on their CIEMs for a while now, and with the connectors it's one of the highest quality builds I've ever encountered.

I have a friend in Sydney and he wants a new pair of cans....

he never had any god ones so he doesn't know what to look out for so he asked me.....

His demands are closed back, detachable cable and has to be good at playing skillet and dubstep.....

his budget is $200 and about a hundred on a amp and he wants to be able to buy the cans in a store not online.......

I gave him two options,

HD439 + e11

ATH-PRO700 MKii +e11

any of you have any other options?

UE6000, Skullcandy Aviator(!). They are both surprisingly decent and match the description. You can also find them everywhere easily and get a bargain. Otherwise the Sony MDR-1R. The Pro700 has really high clamping force and isn't really terribly comfortable, especially if you wear glasses. It is also harder to find in a store considering that the AT lounge is being relocated.

Edit: I would probably recommend the UE6000 the most, except they can be slightly unsteady on account of their size. If your friend plans on moving his head around a lot (ie: dancing with the headphones) I might skip it heh. It has a great tone for Skrillex and dubstep though just because it is detailed, bassy but not particularly harsh.

The UE6000 I once purchased for $200 at Dick Smith on sale, so yes it should be possible if you bargain.

No, it's not a joke about Skullcandy.

In recent years Skullcandy has tried to focus on improving the sound quality of their products and shake their reputation for suckyness, to the extent that they sent their head acoustic engineer out to Tyll for a conversation about it. The Aviators actually perform quite decently; they have a warmer tone but are enjoyable and quite tight. They also have quite respectable measured performance, though perhaps I'm being more positive given that a friend of mine purchased a pair for $99 on Catch Of The Day. I wouldn't be unhappy with them for that price and they look pretty neato in black.

I've not heard the HD439 but the measurements look pretty promising.
