I've always used timbral, but then again I've also been saying that people hung themselves for decades so what do I know?

I can't believe iRiver is releasing an AK120 with correct impedance and dual DAC for only....1299 euros, i.e. 1700 USD. I might buy a castle instead.

Don't worry. Some people evidently think it'll come down in price and they'll be able to get it for less than 1k USD.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Listening to the SE535 I feel that my 100 dollar XBA3 sounds better. I guess its time to use my SE535 to its death so I would have excuse to upgrade tongue.gif I am feeling underwhelmed by my supposed endgame. It just dosent do everything perfectly, it just sounds too slow for most of my genres. It cannot be my end game. But as I already basically chucked my wallet at it I would have to stick with it frown.gif Hopefully things get better after it gets a reshell.

Rant Over.

No idea why professionals would use it.........even my 100 dollar XBA 3s sound better than it for most genres. However the SE535 does shine at times and when it does you only feel mildly ripped off instead of feeling completely ripped off. IMO the UM3x does everything the SE535 does at half the price. Now to somehow find an audiologist that doesn't require a 30 minute train trip to get to, and I shall send it in for a reshell. Then I can use it as an Daily beater.

Pssh. I like the SE535, I'm always confused why people hate it so much. The XBA-3 is okay, but doesn't synergise too well with my taste in music or my gear. I never thought any of the Shure IEM line up was sibilant.

Mind you, I don't think of it as an endgame IEM.

I dont hate it, its just I feel like it is overpriced tongue.gif But I am saddened by the fact that Im stuck with it for another year an 7 months before Im allowed to spend a large amount on a earphone again frown.gifwell at least when it is reshelled I wouldnt have any more fit issues biggrin.gif

Why don't you just sell it instead of spending more money on IEMs you don't like?

Probably because an SE535 in need of repair won't fetch very much?

I never found the 535 to be sibilant. I just found it "muddy". I have no idea why. It was one of those IEMS where I can't describe the signature. Bass is there, mids are slightly forwards and the highs are unoffensive. As a whole though they just sounded muddy. Over here the 535s are famous for mids but I just can't see why.  confused.gif

Ditto.

I compared my GR07 to the SE530 and 535, but found the GR07 to be more resolving in the mids, and expands the FR on both ends. I don't recall sibilance on the 535, but the 530 was ridiculous on some tracks.

Ohh, it's broken. Still, isn't getting Shure to fix/replace it still cheaper than a custom reshell?

Hmm, dunno about that.  But while we're on the subject of alternatives to a reshell...  Veyron, would you be interested in a temporary replacement?

It doesn't seem that far off from what you're used to, and it's on sale for only $50 on Amazon right now.
