Except that the resulting temptation to give in and just buy a BA4f makes waiting for the next Cosmic hybrid that much harder.

It's a long shot, but are any owners of the BA4 thinking of getting the HY3? ( or vice-versa ).
I'd love to read a direct comparison.

My HY-TF10, and the HY3 that I had really give me hope for the HY5 being great though.

In the absence of genuine factual info I'd like so speculate wildly:
I wonder what kind of new driver you're waiting for Phil, conventional dynamic?, or micro-drive?.
I ask as I've got a Sony MH1-C that uses a micro dynamic driver, and for the £17 I paid for it it is staggeringly good.
I wonder if any manufacturers have combined micro-drive dynamic drivers with BA's?
They'd presumably take up less room than a conventional D-D?

Do you have any timescale established for either the BA6 or the HY5 yet?

With the HY3 you get big bass at the expense of upper mids and treble. Phil did say that the HY3 treble is a bit worse than the BA2 treble, while the mids are very similar. I don't know if he means quantity or quality, or both. I find the HY3 mids and treble to be of amazing quality, they're just lacking quantity so they need a bit of EQ to sound good. The BA4, on the other hand, is much more neutral from what everyone has been saying, so it needs no EQ.

I'm curious about the HY5 and the BA6. If they can get reference quality with only 4 drivers, the 6 driver model must be pretty amazing to say the least.

Try the plastic wrap, around 1cm wide and see if wrapping it improves the isolation & comfort.

Trust me, I tried it and it worked like charm.

RIght, after breaking the Q-Jays open, taking the TWFK drivers and cleaning them, things are looking much better.

Green - right
Orange - left

Just a slight discrepancy around 4k, but it'll be fine I think. So I've ordered the reshell!

Phil did say that the drivers were a bit fragile as they haven't been soldered very well, and the cable on both sides was in fact in bad condition :S Probably because these were one of the first production runs, about five years ago, and quality control must have sucked. I've read a lot of reports from early adopter Q-Jays owners that their right side had gone bad.

Going to get my ear impressions made this afternoon.

I just received the D-Zero and 3 shells with new colors!

I've photographed them for your pleasure. It was extremely hard to get the colors right, but I think I caught their 'essence'.

Nebula purple magma glitter:

Green nebula-ish blue shell with glitter:

Purple pink-ish nebula:

FYI: these are in fact the official names for the new colors. They aren't.

I haven't yet listened to the D-Zero, because I'm actually expecting another package today. Can't miss the doorbell...

So which do you like the best?

I will try this. Thanks for the tip.

Today, I've focused more on this "fit" problem of my right ear canal and I feel that the problem is with the lenght of the canal. It seems that the canl is a little bit too short and thus my right monitor slightly slips out of the ear canal. Moreover, I've noticed that when I grit my teeth the sound slightly changes in the ear monitor.

That's really hard, I think I like the purple nebula with glitters the best. That color is quite spectacular. In second place is probably the green/blue nebula. I'll try to take a better picture of this color, with some artificial light someday soon.

I've now compared the D-zero to the HO of the DX50, and it's definitely an improvement. I'm not sure how big it is yet, but the lack of hiss in the D-zero is definitely beneficial for the sound.

Thanks for taking the effort in creating these shells, it was a very nice surprise!

Among those three I like the purple nebula the most.

Do you plan to buy another cIEM from Phil (since you requested preparation of empty shells)?

Can you please compare D-Zero vs C5?

You, funny you. I didn't ask for any preparation of empty shells! Phil just made them for me!

However, I would want to buy the BA6 someday.

I am liking the D-Zero more than the C5 with the BA4f. But C5 had a more expansive soundstage, but also a slightly warmer sound to it, and thus slightly less detail.

Are you planning to use it with the DX50?

No. I'm just curious about the comparison between the amps - since recently I was going to buy a new amp and I was considering C5 as well (but now my plans has changed since it seems that the DIY amp project which I started 2 months ago will be finally sucesfully completed).

Ear impressions made and sent! Actually quite an enjoyable experience, having your ears filled with silicone...

I know right

I agree, I like it too. Can't see why other people hate it :D

When I got mine done it was difficult getting the cotton dams to fit because my inner canals near the ear drums are very tiny, and they were inserted too deep, so it was quite painful. That might have contributed to my initial fit problems too, as my canals were probably swollen from the intrusion. Oh well, at least for next time I know that they won't need to be as deep, just past the second bend is fine.
