It's a picture book - or a signed copy of "My Pet Goat."

Heir Audio 4.A (faceplate: black-with-blue-inserts carbon fiber).

Thread Starter

Received the BA4 and have spent a little time with it - not enough for any meaningful impressions yet. Phil also sent over a mock-up of the "Steam Junk" design which is similar to Steam Punk but unique. I like them both.

Here's my rather poor attempt at decent pics:

Very quick impression of the BA4 - it's exceedingly neutral. As in, UERM type neutral. Some people might find it bass light if you didn't know what you were getting in to prior to ordering. BA3 and BA5 will be the ones for a more bass heavy, slightly V shaped signature. BA4 is ravishingly neutral. Very impressive on a technical level though - played some Norah Jones and other "audiophile music" and it was quite nice.

More to come when I have time.

This is exactly what I asked Phil for, I can't wait!

Having a hard time trying to decide which model to go for; BA4, BA5, BA6 or HY5 confused.gif

I love my extremely neutral Genelec system, but I also love my Sennheiser IE80s, which are hardly neutral biggrin.gif

I would say go neutral. There will always be sound sigs you like, but you can EQ, change amps, dacs, [to a degree] cables, etc to sculpt. For instance, I'm considering a ZO2 for the BA4 for the days I only feel like listening to hip-hop.

Ba6 and HY5 will be a while so I'd concentrate on the others for a while!

I think you are right. The Genelecs are amazing even for dance music if I bumb up the subwoofers sensitivity. The IE80s on the other hand only play well with mid- or bass-centric music.

It is easy to get that couple extra dBs of low bass with EQ, but you can't really EQ more detail into the headphones wink.gif

True, but it will also be a while until I have money for any of these biggrin.gif

Fair enough! At the moment i think the BA4 seems to be the one your after but we still have no idea what the BA6 tuning will be like!

Bingo. I have a pair of Genelec 1032A's in the studio, and they have made me love neutral again. Though I could stand a dB or two more bass when I'm just jamming out, but that can be arranged :)

On a related note, Project86, when you get time can you let us know how hard/easy the BA4's are to drive? The sensitivity seems to be a giveaway, I wasn't sure how amping would sound on them. I might just end up getting a new Nano+ ZO2 lol
