Oh? you would still partially see the colours on the side right?

I don't know much about the Hybrids.  But I do like neutral, slightly mid centric, not too forward with some treble, not hot and some low end.  Textured yet correct.  I think I'm being too picky.  ksc75smile.gif  Soundstage is always awesome too but it doesn't need to be HD800 or Q701's.

These are new drivers and are not easy to come by - in fact I think they may still be prototypes at this stage, with the manufacturer intending to put them into full production. So it's not like Phil just has buckets of them laying around. He was able to source a replacement for me though, and my set should finish later this week.

Dynamic drivers are way cheaper than BA drivers. Different designs + different drivers = different pricing. But it could still be the case that a hybrid configuration is best for you

No idea, but not bothered by that.  The problem I had with the ma's is that they are so small that it takes a moment to identify which is left and right!  Figured that colour combo would be a good one :)

Dynamic drivers have more mass and move more air so they have bigger bass and soundstage, and they also tend to have more natural texture than some BAs, but the bigger mass means they move more slowly so they lose to BAs in terms of speed, resolution and accuracy. However from what I hear the BA2 and up have very capable bass for BAs, at least for non-bassheads.

Hybrids are hypothetically the best of both worlds but it's hard to achieve synergy between the dynamic driver and the BAs because of the difference in speed, so the bass may sound disembodied from the rest of the sound spectrum to a discriminating ear. But if you're a basshead and you like your bass to stand out you probably won't mind. If you want everything neutral and transparent, stick with BAs.

Ya I got that about them.  I just which there was more info about them as well as more IEM's them them.  I am surprised that they are cheaper.  But Synergy is what I am looking for in a hybrid.  I have not tried any as they are still fairly new but intrigued by the mix.

Looked really nice when I saw them! I'm guessing Phil is fulfilling orders on BA4 to people for review first before others on the list get an email or are they not really officially in production yet? I remember signing up in October-November so I'm just curious.

More likely he's waiting until after the easter break before ramping production up is my guess :)

Of course the review samples go out first, but not even those are finished yet. Project86's BA4 is a pre prod model if I understood well. I hope my shells fit and that the armatures arrive very soon!

Yep, Phil said he actually had to use the drivers from his own pair to make this set for me. The drivers are still technically "prototype" but should be more easily available to him soon.

I normally wouldn't care to have them so early but I'm working on a project with a deadline at InnerFidelity.

I have the HY3. You will find my impressions of it in this thread. The dynamic in it is quite fast and works really well with the BA's. Overall tone is typical of the Cosmic Ears sound, with a neutral, balanced and smooth presentation. Bass is in just the right quantity, mids are very slightly back and trebles are slightly rolled off on the top end. All in all, a lovely presentation. The HY3 also responds very well to EQ if you need to alter any portion of the sound spectrum, without destroying the rest of the sound.

Hey guys,

It has been a while ago I discovered this company thanks to project86's post. I read pretty much everything I could find related to their products. I also contacted Phil for myself, however I am a student and I am not buying one 'for the moment', still I wanted to get an idea for the future.

I am a fan of flat sound. Uncolored rather analytical. I asked him which CIEM he should suggest to me he purposed BA4 or BA2 but heavily BA4. As soon as my wallet says I am in safe, I am getting BA4 from him.

But I also wanted to inform you guys, if anyone is looking for a flat-ish sound, BA4 or BA2 is what you probably should get.

I decided to buy from Cosmic Ears because they are rather wallet friendly, and located in EU (for me it is important especially while buying a CIEM I prefer not to get it from the other side of the world) also customer service is amazing thanks to Phil. People should see you don't need to pay 1000 euros to get a 4 BA CIEM.

^ Hi - you've mentioned the BA 2 and 4 but not the 3 - just wondered what lead you to that conclusion? I prefer a flat sound, and was going for the BA4 but have considered the 3 due to being slightly cheaper (plus I'm going to go for the HY5 later in the year as I'm drawn to having a hybrid!)

BA3 is tuned to be a bit more fun than flat.
