I'm planning on one last audio purchase before I go into saver-mode guys, and with stock permitting the Cosmic HY3 is high on that list. I was just wondering if those of you who have a pair could link me to any in-depth impressions you've written on them, or otherwise just comment on how warm they are (warmth is something I'm not looking for) and whether or not they're worth the price in general.

if you do not warmth then i think some of the BA models will be more up your street. In fact the BA1 is the only model that i can well and truly doe snot have warmth and it sounds very nice and great for the price. The BA2 does have  a bit of warmth and i have not heard the other BA models yet!

Emailed cosmic with regards to their BA6. They replied very quickly. "Hi
We aim to make the BA6 as smooth as possible with some good bass extension. It will be a 3 bore design, however if a customers ear canals are quite small it may not be possible for 3 bores so we would utilise a double bore design, this should not impact the sound.
We try to not have the treble too sparkly as this can make the earphones more fatiguing."

Hmm, my triple fi 10s have started working again so I've been listening to them in depth for the last couple days.

 

The sub bass is a bit lacking but the overall quantity isnt actually that weak to me...the mids are definitely too recessed though and vocals get lost, especially males. Treble is quite sparkly and CAN be sibiliant but generally quite nice actually, better than i'd remembered.

 

If I sell my TF10 and buy the HY-3, is it really an upgrade or a side step? Given the bass on the TF10 is nearly good enough for me, would perhaps the ba-3 be better option?

 

I have the HY3 (not the HY3XB) and a TF10, and my reason for getting the HY3 was precisely to resolve sub-bass that the TF10 did not seem to be able to manage. The HY3 has met my expectations by resolving sub-bass and providing a smooth and balanced sound across the spectrum that is extremely amenable to EQ. The HY3 does not have sparkly trebles like the TF10, in fact Cosmic Ears "house sound" is towards a smooth presentation across the board.

 

For me, the HY3 has pretty much made all my other IEM's redundant. There are occasions when I prefer the TF10 for specific types of music, but the HY3 sounds great with anything you throw at it, and the fact you can EQ to your hearts content without destroying the sound, means you can pretty much make them sound any way you want.

 

EDIT: The TF10 and HY3 sound nothing like each other. The TF10 has an accentuated V shaped sound sig, with boosted bass and trebles and the HY3 is a smooth and balanced response with the ability to reach deep with its dynamic driver for that sub-bass, and a slight roll off on the top of the trebles for a non-fatiguing sound.

I feel exactly the same way about my TF10s, they're really good, it's just frustrating that they have those slight weaknesses.

I do sometimes find them quite piercing on the occasional track though.

I preferred the sound of my HY3 to the TF10, I still think the TF10 had them very slightly beat in terms of clarity and precision, but overall the more extended bass (slightly more pronounced too), and smoother top end of the HY3 took the honours.

I'm also fairly certain that if my HY3 had broken in properly before their untimely demise I'd have liked them even more.

I did find the bass of the TF10s just a little tighter, but others have reported the bass of the HY3 tightening up post break-in.

Midrange wasn't as recessed as the TF, but still not prominent, that too has been reported as improving post break-in.

 

I haven't heard the ba-3s, just the HY3s and my Pure dynamics, but based on what I've heard I'm going for the HY5.

If that wasn't going to become available in March I'd be going for the HY3 again.

 

Phashbios has described the TF10 in a very similar manner to how you and I hear it, so I think his comments are probably most pertinent here as he has much more extended listening on the HY3.

Comparing a BA2 to a HY3. Which one do you suggest would be better?

Considering my choice of genres would be Dubstep and Glitch which is more bass-heavy and most of the time I would be listening to acoustic, classical, live concerts and recordings.

i think HY3 would be more up your street!

Haha, swimsonny! I would love to get the HY3 but the cost factor is quite crucial to me because I'm a student so I would love to keep the cost down. I've discussed with Phil and he would rather me get the BA2. However, I'm afraid the bass would be greatly compromised because of the lack of a dynamic driver. Any advice?

Well the BA2 i have have a great deep bass, won't leave you missing anything out!
