I'm a sucker for tiny audio components.  I just ordered one.  I was going to go with ODAC because of the great value, but this seems to take the value even further.  Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Any suggestions for an equally tiny yet very good headphone amp?  Will be driving relatively efficient full-sized headphones.  Am going to build an O2, but would like something even tinier to use as a portable laptop or tablet rig.

I'm also looking at this for a portable tablet or phone rig. Was looking at odac+amp/oda+o2 but either way it's probably going to get more expensive than i want, since it's going to be used with "cheap" iems or portable headphone like PX-200. What small and cheap amp would be good to pair with UD100 in the same enclosure?

I posed this question in a different thread and have done some research.  A basic Cmoy based off of Tangent's tutorial will run you roughly $21 plus shipping for the parts (minus the enclosure).  A fancy Cmoy with bass boost from JDS labs will run you roughly $35 plus shipping in parts (minus the enclosure).  Cmoy's have always been solid performers, and the JDS one is supposedly great for the money.  Either one can be built into a mint tin with room for the UD100 (unless you go with 2 batteries).  Other possibilities are the PIMETA, but the parts cost looks to be more than an O2.  Really, its hard to beat the O2 from a value standpoint.  You can get the guts for under $50.

I am currently building an O2 and plan to order parts for a basic Cmoy to see what kind of sound I get from each coupled with the UD100 when I get it.

I see from the post above it being used on a samsung phone without an amp, is it advisable?

I won't recommend it. UD100 has plenty of voltage, but it isn't designed to supply a lot of current. Also, with roughly 250ohm of output impedance, you will never get enough dampening. Plus, colouration will likely be a big issue as well.

There is nothing wrong with pairing the UD100 with an inexpensive amp. It makes for an economically attractive combination. I only note that the UD100 is inexpensive but there is nothing cheap about the sound. The more I listen to it, the more impressed I am with this tiny marvel. I pair it with the Stepdance which is one of the better and more expensive portable amps out there and the results are excellent. So if you can afford a higher-end amp, the UD100 will do it justice.

I was looking at the usual suspects fiio e17, e7, ibasso dzero, etc. but this might be a better option. I have yet to read more about the topic about amps and dacs using USB OTG, mainly on android devices. It seems fiio e17 is not working properly with some devices, current related issues i think, so i'd be looking at an amp/dac that works fine.

I would like to see your opinions about this DAC, and if is better than UD100... :)
