"Awakening" must be one of his best?

It's one of his first. Haven't read it.

"An Anthropologist On Mars" is very good too (cool title!).

Thanks. Do you recommend this over say, Jansons?

Oh I haven't heard it; that's why I'm asking for opinions :o There's quite a few good DSch 10s out there, so I'm wondering how this new one might stack against stiff competition.

Most of his orchestral recordings are good, not stellar. I have heard him perform mahler 5 live with the seoul philharmonic, it was good, nothing spectacular.

It was OK for background music while I wrote, much prefer Klemperer's Cycle and Bernstein's 9th. Though I am attempting to broaden my listening through Tidal and Naxos.

I really enjoy Chung/Seoul Phil's Emperor (Sunwook Kim) and symphony 5 record on DG. The latter especially has real bite and slam - the low end strings and timpani sounds bombastic. Gets my toes tapping. One of my favourite Beethoven 5s in fact.

I've read that Chung's Messiaen recordings are good but I've not really explored them.

If I may revisit the relatively recent Mozart discussion on this thread. I find this excellent!

Excerpt from one of my favourite Mozart SQs:)

Kleiber's Beethov 5th Symph is still stupendous. The venom in the first mvt is unmatched.

I'll vouch for his Des canyons aux étoiles… I also like his Daphnis et Chloe, even if he doesn't have quite the energy of Munch.
