Burn-in is real for sure, but it varies from gear to gear/ maker to maker it seems. Some change a lot while others change very little, not sure if it always changes for the better though. LoL But it seems that way..........................i hope.

It's definitely for the better in this case lol. The exact comment I made to another head-fi'er a few hours ago tonight was that the bass seemed like they "forced it on the headphones". It was really messing with the overall sound to me, even though there were things I liked about them. But somehow the low end has become much cleaner with a few hours on them and there is less of a veil...freaky, man

Focker! My DT1350 (which I don't have but am in perpetual lust for) and Tunein buddy! Hope you have fun with the s400's. And if you ever experiment with the almighty s500's, make sure you burn in those puppies well also!

As suggest by Ghost before, I bought this case for the s400:

The problem is I can't seem to get them to fit at all. Does anyone care to provide a picture/instructions on how to do so?

I never really believed in burn-in either....but when I got the S500, there was a noticeable difference made. I wouldn't necessarily do it with any headphone, and I will never leave my DAP or portable amp running for hundreds of hours to burn them in, but at least with these carbon nanotube headphones, it seems to work.

Yeah, Im with you on that. Thankfully with these little guys it only took about two hours, cause no way I'd be messing with a 100 hr burn-in either lol.  I have to give these phones credit, cause they've created a brand new budding audiophile tonight! Okay, well maybe not quite, but a female friend of mine has been hanging on to the notion that apple ibuds were all that she needed to enjoy her music. I finally convinced her to try some headphones, and these are the ones I sent her since the buzz was so strong. Tonight she said she finally "gets it". She was able to see that quality headphones allow you to not only detect differences in quality among tracks and sources, but she was hearing deeper into the music than she ever had before (obviously) and she's already hooked. If she ends up getting some use out of these JVCs, I'm going to ship her a pair of Grado SR60s next so she can take the next step.

I'm not sure just how close the S400s are to the S500s, but as an S500 owner and former SR60i owner, I would not look at the SR60i as a step up...it would be a sidestep at best and most likely a slight step down.wink.gif

So you'd call the S500 significantly better than S400? Either way, I plan on getting an S400 at some point.
