FiiO E7 VS FiiO E11, The Reviews.

Hello again, Head-Fi.

This is a comparative review of the FiiO E7 and the FiiO E11. All other audio equipment used: AKG Q701, Sony MDR-XB500, Apple iPhone 4S, FiiO LOD and the EQu app. For price reference, the E7 is $65 and the E11 is $55. On to the reviews.

Quantity of Distortion (Humming): The E7, when no music is being played, produces a very noticeable humming noise. It does tend to get quite irritating after a few minutes. However, the E11 does not make any humming noise whatsoever. That's a definite win for the E11.

Overall Volume: The E7, when plugged up to my iPhone, can only produce the same volume levels as my laptop, which is only just enough for my Q701s. On the other hand, the E11 pumps out about 1.5x the amount of volume that the E7 can pump out. Another definite win for the E11.

Bass Booster: To sum this up, the E7 has the potential to pump out more bass (quantity) than the E11. HOWEVER, the E11 pumps out more bass (quality) than the E7. Dirty bass vs clean bass, it just depends on what you want.

User Interface: The E7 has a screen, which is a huge plus. The buttons are easy to understand, and the menus are very simple. On the other hand, the E11 has a manual volume knob and just 2 simple switches. So, I say it's a tie here.

Battery Life: Almost identical. No clear winner here, just a tie.

Cool Bits: The E7 has 2, 3.5mm plugins for 2 pairs of headphones. The E11 has the volume knob and an easy access battery button.

Extra Bits: The E7 comes with a 3.5mm male to male cable to plug into devices, has a protective rubber case and a screen protector. It also comes in an iPhone-esque box. The E11 comes in a protective tin case. That's it. I'd say the E7 wins this round.

Sound Quality: Going back to the humming noise on the E7, I honestly believe that the E11 will deliver better SQ than the E7. The E11 wins this round.

Overall: I guess it all comes down to what you are looking for in an amp. They are both good, but for me, I'd take the E11 over the E7 any day. It might not have the UI like the E7, but it makes up for it and more when it comes to making your headphones produce some good sound. But, I have to say, if you use headphone splitters around your friends, I really can see why you would choose the E7. IMO, I'd rather just use the E7 with a friend instead of having to put a splitter in the E11. I guess, in the end, it all comes down to what you want out of a headphone amp.

Thank you for reading, I hope this helped you. If you have any more questions, feel free to reply down below! All comments are appreciated. smily_headphones1.gif

Good read, but I have an E7 on the way already :| Bought it according to recommendations and the price. Don't think I'll get an E11 right now because I just bought the E7. My next amp purchase will probably just be something higher end instead.

The E7 is still a good purchase, so, no worries man. smily_headphones1.gif

The splitter on the E7 could be useful for testing two headphones either at home or on the go. Imagine that you have your portable setup and meet someone with headphones you want to try. It's could be easier to just plug them both and swap with each other. Think of it as a converation starter. That is how I will meet my wife. Kidding. Half kidding.

I still use my E7 quite a bit, especially with the XB500. It helps pump out that heavy bass that the XB500's are capable of.
