Sony NWZ-F806 mini review (& F-series player reviews / impressions / discussion) - Page 67

Hey guys, awesome thread here. I have spent ALOT of time searching for a new DAP, and as you can guess I have my eyes set on the F806. I've got a question though...

How does metal sound on this thing? I'm talking black metal (general as well as very raw black metal), death metal, folk metal, viking metal... that sort of thing. From what I've read in the differences in sound between the Z and F, I get the feeling the thick sound of the Z may suit me better... however, if anyone could give me an evaluation of how the F (or Z) handles metal, I would be VERY grateful!

Ah, also, do any of you know what version we have in New Zealand? I don't really know where to look for that info. I hope it isn't EU version. Probably US, but I wanna be sure...

Oh, finally - does scrobbling to Last.fm work with the default music player? I've been searching around about this, but haven't found a clear answer. It may seem silly, but scrobbling ability with an internet capable DAP is quite important to me, and I'd like to use the default music player and the W. button bigsmile_face.gif

Any comments from those who've tried amping the F80X via a LOD? I have an ALO RX2 and I'm thinking about getting a LOD for my incoming 807. I'd be interested in hearing aboutyour experiences.

line out and headphone out sounds almost the same to my ears. this is paired with a lisa 3 amp though.

I tried it with a LOD to a ... Hippo Cricri, I think. The difference was immense.
It probably depends on what external amp/DAC you're using, anyway.

I'm not a big heavy metal fan but suspect that the F maybe a bit unforgiving in that genre compared to the Z.  Others may join in though, but in any event, it will handle it better than any iPod out there.

Alright. I suppose I could always fiddle around with the EQ, anyways bigsmile_face.gif. It's a shame that there are never any metal songs on those demo models in stores...

Wait for others to chime in first.  I mean, if you really want to purchase the unit...the sale person should be able to load metal tracks on the player for you to audition.  Heck, I would....not everyone wants to buy walkman any more.  EQing can useful if you want to add a little bit more meat to stock sound on the F.

So, do you think I should visit the store with some of my music on a USB stick? I've never really been this serious about buying a fairly high-end DAP, and as such, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to go about things... tongue_smile.gif Thanks for the help though, guys

(P.S. I'm gonna be away for a couple hours or so)

Your ears and brain have the final word, so my advice is yes please find the time to go and check it.

True music deserves some sacrifice, and in the long run we want to have the best SQ in relative to price ratio.

It's best to bring your own music to audition anything, as it's what you're familiar with. An easy option would be to bring another Android device, or phone that supports Bluetooth FTP (file transfer). Simply bluetooth your music over.

As much as I want it, but no.

I even had to install xperia smartconnect myself, although I can't get it automatically starting in the background without the help from another 3rd party app

It has no NFC, or Android Beam support. But it has Bluetooth and 802.11n wireless networking. Unfortunately, it seems to also lack WiFi Direct support for some unknown reason.
