btw both the WM-F & WM-Z play 'gapless' you just gotta chose the right music-source.

Well, earlier this weekend, I've sold and shipped my NW-F807S. It's a pity that it didn't play my hires files. Think it's the UI I'll miss sorely.

Tried turok's sample file in Poweramp and stock player. Stock player sounds more sparkly, a little bit, at least on the guitars. Poweramp's volume level is much lower though, with DVC off.

I completely forgot to mention the F-series case I received. It came in a black, rough-card box, with shiny metallic print on the front; WALKMAN F-Series, with Sony at the bottom. Gorgeous box, really. The case itself was wrapped in some black dimpled paper with a Walkman-logo'd tag sticker sealing it. The case itself is soft smooth leather, with a red flap (in the cracked-ish style leather, whatever you call it) and matching red stitching. There's a Walkman logo badge on the bottom right corner. There's even a hole on the bottom for the 3.5mm jack.
Counter-intuitive to this however is the fact that the case is not apparently designed to be used in any manner that allows you control the player while it's inside. There are hidden magnets to keep the case closed, too.
There's also a matching black leather strap (quite long) with red stitching.

Will post picture of it later when I get around to photographing the player itself as well. Frankly, the case's box is way nicer than the F806's retail package. Geez.

Thanks Salanos. This thread is more and more interesting, really.

I have to confess that I am loving my F807, even if sometimes, I miss the bass extension.

All my song are in FLAC now and what I really like about this walkman is the precision of the sound, the details.

It is hard, when I am in public, to stay quiet .

But I understand why Ok-Guy wants to stay with his Z1070.

I am thinking about buying the Z1060 now, 'cause I am curious about how it sounds.

I am waiting the ICS update.

The Sony headphones are not bad, but the trebels are too agressive for my ears.

I tried 3rd party apps, and even if I know I'll probably buy Poweramp (for the playlists, don't want to use MediaGo), I mainly use Sony stock player

I am not really convinced by these apps.

It's my "exclusive" preorder case, and the box clearly says "NOT FOR SALE" on the side. Pics;

It's a very nice looking case, but it's almost fundamentally useless for a device like this.

And here are some of the player itself, a real black slab of industrial design.

It looks works well with Sony's own XBA earphones... and matches the visual aesthetic too.

And to finish off, some size comparisons, vs NWZ-S739F, Galaxy SII and the iPad:

Screen sizes for reference:
NWZ-F806: 3.5" WVGA
NWZ-S739F: 2.0" QVGA
GT-I9100 SII: 4.3" WVGA
iPad 3: 9.7" Retina
The F806 is almost exactly the same size as an iPhone 4.

EDIT: This is odd. I just noticed that my stock Sony player allows the volume to be controlled while the player is locked and screen is off. It seems it's not compatible with third party players.

Here's the NW-F807 with its relative, the new Vaio Duo 11. All pics taken here on the plane.

Since the DUo supports NFC, I'll try it at some point with the F807. I also wonder if NFC work with SonicStage CP5 which I installed (and yes, I still use SS; you just need to hack one file to install on an English OS).

Here's the blue color with the Steamboat Willie theme:

Here's the case I got - fits it perfectly. Wasn't designed for it actually and wasn't cheap, but I'm very happy with it.

The F807 has an NFC chip? That's news to me.

I am loving that cyan color, I really would have wanted that.

Weird, I'm wondering if it's a setting somewhere which is not allowing the volume rocker to work with third-party apps when the unit is locked. Mine does work with app players when locked... I'm certain at least it does so with Cubed.

Well that's probably because it's not for sale! Says so on the box.
According to them it was exclusively limited to the preorders. I asked if I could buy more and they said no.

nice preorder box and case salanos!

although mine is still being shipped, i think i would get or trade my F for a red Z sometime based on how the other users describe the sound. that might change though, i hope!

Has anyone seen a good video review of this new walkman?  I can't seem to locate one anywhere.

AllThingsD had a review, but it's not really a good one.

Just for the record, only the case came in that lovely black box. Unfortunately the player itself still came in the boring old retail package (as seen in the scan on the other page).

Sony F walkman will never earn top review as most reviewers will ditch the F high price & lack of front & back cameras unless he/she values excellent sound quality.  The F is built for music enthusiast first and apps later.
