Looking forward to be part of the fraternity. I will probably do a short review of the player once I had some time to play with it with some comparison with Cowon J3 - I have been a long time Cowon user.

I think Cubed (aka: '3') sounds even a tad better than the stock player. And it's a freebie. Please, give it a try!

Turok, how does VBR0 MP3 and FLAC compare on it?

The stock player's fairly capable, it's just slow and crash prone! ...Least when I used it...

To make it simple, I ditched MP3 completely a year ago.

there's a definite step-up in audio quality going 'lossless'... Turok posted some file-size comparisons between Flac and Atrac-Lossless 356k (roughly same as WAV in file size).. I reckon I could save around a third or more of memory by going over to Flac (after WM-Z update), also consider that Flac is not a lot bigger than mp3-320k and it's 'lossless'... your ears gain more pleasure.

a few of us are bouncing between threads (WM-Z & WM-F) so hears a thought to chew on...

it would be great to have a 'Sony Walkman Appreciation Thread' where all Walkmans could be discussed in-situ... any thoughts?

It's a good suggestion... but what if it's for more recent Walkmans which are based on the Android OS? That would keep it to the more related models.

Atrac Lossless is not the same size as WAV in file size, it is considerable smaller but still 1-5% larger than FLAC .  Ranging from size:  Wav > Atrac Lossless > Flac > Atrac3 Plus 352kbps > MP3 CBR 320kbps.  See below for information on file size of different audio file formats.

Now get another one and rubber-band them together. Voila, 32gb.
