I like the sound of rooting. That's something I'd happily donate for if someone figured out a way to do that.

If you didn't pay for the express shipping, which is EMS, then they will ship standard in SAL and that takes a long time...

Ok. Ordered from Exports-From-Kobe where expedited was an extra 50 bucks for an advertised 4-7 days. Meanwhile standard was advertised as 10-15 days. At the time I didn't think it was worth it and other sellers had similar times, SAL from one seller was at max 21 days which is fine. I'm gonna give them the benifit of the doubt for the time being.

The buds that came with this baby sound exceptional for their price. They're the Ex300s right? Too bad mine came deformed... (one ear cable was extremely longer than the other) frown.gif

haha, I think that's how some earphones are.  I used to have some sennheiser sport headphones, and they were like that so the wire comes up one side (the left for me, it was the shorter cable), and the other headphone you put around the back of ur neck.  So when you work out, you don't have the cord dangling in front of you.

Other than speed, the other reason I paid for EMS is the tracking from Japan Post.

Yes they are EX300, and nastynice is right, most Sony IEMs, in fact since the very beginning, employ an asymmetrical cord design so that the center line hangs on the left.  This is NOT a defect.

Would love to say I'd give it a go, but not having developed a solution for a device before I couldn't say how long it'd be before a method was found.

You could be waiting months and months before seeing it again, and it may even come back bricked.

As well, rooting a device (read: providing yourself with superuser access yo the root of the system) allows you to install alternative ROMs...

If someone built a suitable/compatible ROM then we'd be on 4.2.2 by now.

Are you familiar with all this stuff?
If yes, it would be appreciated if you could get a dev from xda to work on the root and we will happily donate.

Regarding root, not entirely familiar with how such a request could be made, and if I recall correctly they need to have a device on-hand, but I can certainly try and approach them (figure the worst they'll say is no). Having said that, these are all just perks for what's already a grand piece of kit. I've played with my fair share of gadgets (mobility and electronics are my thing) and there's little else I could ask from the package that Sony have offered, dated as it is. A Jellybean (JB; 4.1+) build may yield some battery and performance enhancements, but comparing the F-series to my Xperia Z I'm not seeing a difference in leaps and bounds. Now, I've read this thread from tip to tail and can't recall what was discussed. Were there supposed to be issues with the firmware update (my device is at 1.01...there's a 1.10, yeah)?

Other than JB, I crave those viper4android audio effects. They really step up the sound.

Version of the "F" I think that plays louder than my "Z" version, I even think to send it in for repair or return back to Japan! but I do not know how to do it!mad.gif

See? Told you your Z was faulty.

Rooting a walkman is definitely a bad idea unless you're not happy how it sounds with any of Sony own IEM/Headphones. I'm not talking about the stock MDREX300, but there are many other models of Sony that pair well with it.

With all my Sony gear I use only a Sony. I like the sound but I hate their warranty. But that's not an issue since it lasts a long time.

Is it covered under warranty?  When did you get it? Where are you located?  Where did you buy it from?

Wouldn't you love making an already awesome sounding player sound better?
