It has the same audio quality as the Walkman player. Both have gapless. Although, the Play app doesn't have lyrics' support and poor album art resolution.

well i thought the play music did gapless on the f. it doesn't. and nor does the stock player. tested both with mp3 320. tested the same files on my nexus 4 using the play music app and it does gapless. the nexus running android 4.2.2. the sony running 4.0.4

Can someone recommend a music app for the F Series that gives better sound quality than the built in one?

If you're looking for one besides stock, unfortunately since the last firmware update I haven't found one that sounds any better. Before the update, I used to listen on 'Cubed', which at the time sounded a bit better. But I think the new stock one is up there to equal the sound of Cubed. They both sound better than anything else I've tried, such as: Poweramp, Neutron, and Winamp Pro (my third favorite after Cubed).

Don't bother, seems like for him gapless is more important than SQ, he even tested with 320k. Don't know what to say already

since this is an android player, i would like to know if you can take the digital out or bypass the internal amp of this Player and use an external dac amp combo>

you can bypass the amp, but not the DAC

no the nexus is not my dap of choice! i was simply comparing that play music on the nexus did gapless. on the f it doesn't.

gapless is an important feature for me and many others in a dap. for you maybe not. doen't make me appreciate audio quality any less than you. in 2013, sony still do not support gapless and yet choose to run a player with android? android does not bring any audio benefits with it to the table. seems to me sony need to focus their efforts on getting FULL range of audio features on a player sotred first.

Does altmann tera have gapless? does astell&kern AK100 has gapless? I don't think so

 

Even hifiman hm901 haven't got gapless implemented (at least they promise they will)

 

I never found people and audio-related companies fussing so much about gapless before

relax. we all know it is not important to you personally. no need to get all defensive and jump on people because they criticise your precious sony for being behind the times...

Poweramp on the F does gapless. And Winamp (sounds a bit better to me than Poweramp).
