Currently I use an iPod Touch 4G with Pure i-20 - with lossless files it's hard to hear any difference from the original CDs

no, i'm streaming to the sony, then line out to input of kenwood in car's dash...........this uses the sony dac
i have this also as an input option to my main wadia dac.
another thought
anyone try this with an amp like the pico slim or rsa predator? both of those help the sound out of my ipod and iphone driving etymotics.
I tried it with my Larocco Pocket Reference (IMO, better than Pico DAC/AMP), and the headphone out of the Walkman with S-Master Pro MX is 95% as good as the lineout + amp. The headphone out on these Sony walkman are really really good.
I tried a Arrow 4G, Just Audio uHA120, E11 and Orb Jade To Go, and in most case I prefered the Sony HO when using IEMs. My Fidelio L1 is the only portable can that seems to benefit from an amp but the difference is so small that I usually don't bother.
Yup, pretty much mirror mine take on the headphone out especially the pairing with IEMs.
Line out is taken from headphone out, or is there a separate line level output?
Yes, line out is supported. Here's the Walkman LOD that I'm using.
