Well i believe that sony made un update for more than one model. I think this update is for Z series too. Well perhaps this is the cause of all the problems F series is not Z series and the Z series is nor F series. I already made use of the reset button and all issues are retained. This operation doesn't solve the problem. I belive that Sony must do, in future, updates that can be rolled back if anything goes wrong with the update. I already said in this forum that i will never do un update without roll back fuction. Today TNT will pickup my Walkman to return it to Sony in Holland for a change. I am in the thirty days of satisfation and i decided that i want another Walkman (Same model) withot the update.I encourage everyody in the same situatin as i or in guarantee timei to do the same, Sony must learn with their mistakes. In the next few weeks i believe that sony will make another update in good conditions but time is money and i don't want to wait.

I'm wondering why did Sony abandon the Atrac format in Europe and America's as they mantain it in Asia. They never give support to Flac maybe another situation to contribut to the problems with the update. I hope that Sony can continue to be leader in walman's i really like the quality of their sound.

Curious any one been compare Sony F/Z/X series vs Ibasso DX100 SQ?   slightly better or heaven and earth?

If the sound quality can justify the high price  DX100 and the short battery life i am ready to made a move. crappy OS doesn't really matter border me but i really hate 5-7 hours DX100 batterylife and no usb charging.

Btw i will pick a sunday to go Sonyshop audition F with XB crazy bass series headphone, maybe i can get some sweet point to stay with F.

Just my personal 2 yen worth for my hearing abilities :-

 

I've not compared side-by-side but have sampled the Sony independently to my DX100. The DX100 SQ is really THE portable setup at the moment for my ears. Probably only the Tera Player maybe the serious DX100 competitor in my eyes/ears.

 

Let's see how the HM-901 performs when it's actually released.

You might want to consider spending some money on custom IEMs to improve the sound of your DAP.  You must really love bass but how about just turn the EQ on to compensate for those lows?  Those XB crazy phones are highly colored and you might be better off just adjusting an EQ.  Personally, I tend to stay away from x-bass phones as it is a very flawed listening device with bass notes interfering with the rest of the frequency.

 

Speaking of the DX100, I have it.  Though it has better and more dynamics sound than the F, but I usually leave it at home.  For portable listening, I like to travel light and I found the F & Z walkman get me 90% of the DX100 using my JH13pro.  The DX100 is not very ergonomics and just not very pleasing to use.  Battery life is approx. 8-10 hours so it should last you one work day.

Nice try purk but in my case i notice less bass after the update even using EQ to maximum and clear bass. The clear bass now have the possibilty to go under 0 but sincerely the difference between 0 and the maximum (10) it's very discret and the same  in The EQ adjustments.

Defenitly after the upgrade the overall sound is not so good as the sound without update. For me is almost like an ordinary mp3 reader a little better. It's my opinion. I have problems with flac (since the update) in the native music player but no problems with google player and i prefer the native player because it is gapless with flac and goggle player is not.

Received my F807 and after one hour listening I can say its a clear update from my J3 and T51.

 

I don't have the software upgrade installed but with Clear bass at 1 and my IE-80 with the tape mode, the amount of bass is enough for me.

 

Edit after two hours listening: The J3 with the BBE effects can give better bass and also the T51 without equalizer, but I'm not a bass head and the F is much more precise/analytics with a very good size for a daily usage, this DAP is very good and the perfect DAP does not exist, I'm missing some physical buttons of the J3 ;) Sony must give the possibility to downgrade the software with their Flash tool utility for Xperia !

 

Edit again : Listening the latest album of Muse "2nd law", very deep bass, this DAP reflect very well the studio recording choices, it's great wink.gif

I advise you don't do the update because if the things went wrong (like with me) you can't roll back. I just send mine, today to sony in netherlands to make a exchange to another one witout the update- I don't admite that Sony just could make un update that goes wrong in some units and don't have a solution for it (Like roll back the update.so, because i am in the 30 days satisfaction or not i resolve to send him to make a exchange. Even i was now in the guarantee period i will alway do the same i did today (send it back for a exchange)

I suppose the firmware update is a bit of a risk, definitely... But for those who it works for ok, it's quite nice. I think the stock player's sound has improved in general, because it now sounds a little better even than Cubed, which was my favorite sonically until now. I remember the older stock player being slightly less spacious and dynamic than Cubed, but now it's a touch better. 

 

So for those who feel like taking a risk, it's worth it sonically. Hopefully you don't run into the freezing player and all! Maybe Sony should tweak the update and make sure it's more stable going forward. It's pretty inexcusable how many owners are having trouble either installing it in the first place, or with play issues afterward.

IME this is the first for sony regarding issues with updates. maybe because of android? i hope not. when old sony players got released, they barely need any future updates and if there is one, its very minimal. its like, v1.0 release = almost perfect

Do owners of the Z find the same sonic improvements in the stock player?

I would not call it improvements, but a bit different, but the player is soooooooooooo sluggish now after the update.

The good thing about the update, is native flac support.

The native flac support is useless for me as the stock player refused to play half of my flacs  or is just too sluggish, and flac was already supported though third party players. But I have to admit I really enjoy the new clear phase headphone option despite using non-Sony headphones, PFE232, noticeable increased clarity. Without it the Z appear to sound the same as before.
