The bass on the F is plenty good enough for me. IMO, it has more low frequency extension than the X and has slightly more output to boot. Next to the Z, the F's bass is less in quantity but reaches just as low but IMO is tighter. Some may prefer the bass blooms on the Z but others may just like the tightness on F. I never found the F to be lacking in bass with my JH13, but others who love additional bass output may want to consider the Z instead of the F walkman.

unfortunately I can't give any technical advice. But maybe you can try hard reset and see if it's fixing the problems? because out of a dozen of F-series owner in this thread, only 2 experience this problem

Ok will do. But with line out you need an amp to control the volume, otherwise you must use the headphone jack.
So I'll just test again but with headphone jack and without fiio amp.
Thank you, this was the last straw....

let me know when you are selling it:)
Ok...PM me for an offer , mind you I have the Gun Metal version.......which also has the "un-updatable firmware" as a security feature, to protect it..
Thankx etherlite, Since i have mine for about Two weeks i will use my rights and beg sony to take it back and give me my money back. It operates well until i updated it. The only thing i have done is aplying the update that sony made. They must accept that they make a deffective update. Perhaps the users who had made the update only plays mp3 and if they try with flac i think they will have the same problem. Since sony makes un update to had improvements in the same way they could make another update to take them off putting the player just like it was before.
I'll let you know what sony will tell me about this.
A Good weekend for you

well, I'd say not being able to update might just be a perk. It's like a gamble to see whether your stock player gets "ruined" in the process.
I agree with cn11 that while quantity lacks a little but it is punchy, quick and extends to the lower ranges.
If you're not a basshead, this might just be a good DAP to consider. Given that it has a FM player =D

soooooo yeah, a tip of a crappy or old headphone plug from an IC got stucked inside my un-updatable version walkman F's headphone jack during a meet today. really pissed. so when i got home, i attempted to open the walkman F without any idea how to open it.
first thing i did is to remove the two screws at the back and there is no part in the walkman F that can be inserted so that i can pry the front panel off. so now my walkman F has alot of marks at the lower right and left in front of my player. now, i removed the plastic cover at the top back of the F, then removed the three screws there. I thought the front part will just come off automatically, but no... it still needed to be pryed off again from the front because i can put something sharp and flat the edges of the screen since that area is a small gap to pry the front panel off.
so yeah i managed to remove it, and remove the tip of the headphone plug that is stucked inside the jack. but the damage caused by prying the front panel open is irreversible no matter how careful i am, sadly.
also, i tried taking a pic at the back of the F but my crappy cam doesnt capture the numbers correctly, so ill just write it down. there are two chips inside that has numbers, a big chip and a small chip:
big chip, about 2cm x 2cm:
small chip, about 3mm x 3mm:
i thought i will be able to see the DAC chip inside it, but it seems i failed haha... there are more screws to be removed to see whats further inside, but i didnt went through it. i dont want to have a 300usd paperweight in case i did something wrong with it xD
sorry guys for my rant and this is the end of it! now the lower front part of my F looks ugly to the point that i cant sell it anymore. I cant RMA it because it doesnt have a serial number on it. and if i have to warranty this to our local sony centre, they will charge me an arm and a leg because it doesnt have a serial number as well!
/end rant
