What are the outstanding issues with the Audiobyte Z as a working solution ?

Using Foobar2000 with no gain reduction results in heavy distortion when using I2S output (ok with AES). Lowering gain in Foobar2000 removes the distortion, so the theory at the moment is that there is a clock alignment problem that results in the most significant ("sign") bit being dropped. As I understand it, lowering the gain also makes the waveform use less bits and avoids the problem. As I see it, it is not a permanent solution to just have the volume lowered as this will diminish the bits being used and this will probably result in loss of detail?

Hi fredrikj,

So do you intend to return the Audiobyte Z and claim a refund from the manufacturer ? or

Are you remaining hopeful that they are working on solving the problem ?

USB module completely unplugged and removed from DAC. Now left with just ribbon cable.

Optical in module also unplugged(after picture is taken).

Call me slow but I have come full circle with my audio setup.  Put the Master 10 amp back into service after only limited audition in the past.  I've had the M10 around for two years but its performance is not really familiar to me other than power to spare.  My faithful tube amp has a little glare and seems a bit tizzy on top but allowed me to fine tune components, cables, and equipment over the past two years.  And I like to let system changes cook for a while to really get sense of the changes.  The Master 10 though compliments the Master 7 perfectly.  Sound erupts from a blacker than black background (ACSS) with fine low level detail.  Quite pleased with my "new" amp!

Agreed.

The Master 10 is a really nice amp.  I love it with the HD800, that was a nice surprise.

Im still waiting for my unit, and will report back when I have tried it.
Nicolae at Audiobyte wrote in an email to me where we discussed i2s hdmi compability between audio-gd and hydra z: 'I got a feedback that NFB-10SE works perfectly with the
Hydra Z, so the issue might be on their "court"'.
Fredrikj, you are sure you dont have received and installed the wrong module in the M7, i.e. the hdmi output module?

NFB10-SE only has only optical, BNC-coaxial, RCA-coaxial. No USB32, RJ45/I2S or HDMI/I2S so not sure how the claim of HDMI compatibily stands up.

Sure the Audiobyte Z might work with coaxial or optical into an Audio-GD DAC but our discussion is around its challenge of working with Audio-GD DAC using HDMI/I2S

Confusing

Fredrik told me that the HDMI input on his M7 works OK with another source.  The problem sounds like the word clock (LRCLK) is not aligned properly with the data packets. But that is only a guess.

Hi all,

Does anyone knows if a network reader like Auralic Aries would work with the master 7?

How to connect the Auralic network reader with the DAC?

All my music i currently on flac files or mp3 on a synology NAS.

Cheers

Vincent

One last question : did someone compared the sonic diference between a reference 10.32 and a master7 : is the upgrade worth the money?

Cheers

It will work, of course. You can connect them using any of the Aries output (AES / Coaxial / Optical / USB). Since the Aries does not have I2S HDMI output, the preferred way would be AES.

Thanks Clemaster!

I was about to resell it to purchase a lumin or linn that costs I think too much for the value, I prefer to stay with my Audio-gd.

Cheers

Actually, the M7 inputs might all sound slightly different (the RCA coax and BNC coax do. They use a different receiver chip.). You can test to check which one you like best.
