I have a pair of Mackie HR824 speakers.  They are currently connected through the XLR inputs, then converted to RCA. So, I have two RCA's, a left and right channel.

I just bought this receiver:

When buying it, I thought that the RCA inputs that say "pre-out" would power a left and right monitor.  I have hooked it all up the pre-out inputs, plugged an ipod into the receiver, and I'm not hearing any sound.

Am I connecting to the wrong inputs?

This receiver also has speaker wire for 5.1 surrounds, but these Mackies only have XLR out and 1/4" phono out.  If this is not going to work could someone please give me advice on how to connect these speakers to any type of receiver.

So very confused right now.
