Sony has new headphones, MDR-1R - Page 163

After hours of close observation, everything in the sound reproduction is indeed heaps clearer except for one: distorted guitars! When listening to RNB, EDm, love songs, acoustic and the likes, everything seems so clear with great details. BUT, with rock and metal it sounds weird and fatiguing. The distorted guitars just doesn't sound right.

I'm guessing the size of the Dynamat is too wide. I'll try various sizes and will report back in a week.

I have had these for a month. At first I was very disappointed with the sound. But after over 200 plus hours they are amazing. They have transformed more than any headphone.stunning.

Try the dynamat mod. I've never tried it but it has shown to give favorable results.

I have created separate thread on the mod as my original post describing it got buried down too deep in this one to find easily.

Question - these come with 2 cables. Does the iPhone/iPod cable have lesser sound quality or anything? I'm just wondering why not use that one all the time, even when not on an iOS device?

There were some small claims in the beginning that there was a difference in quality. I have listened to both extensively and found there was no difference with my cables. A co-worker who owns their own has also verified there is no difference with their pair of cables as well.

Are these good for EDM (Trance: Armin Van Buuren, Dash Berlin, Tritonal, ect)?

They're decent but not the best.

Those DJs produce slow music.

1R is great with higher BPM music like Aly & Fila, MORPH, JOC etc.

d mark0, I'll be very curious to hear the results of your experimentation with different widths of Dynamat.  I was thinking it might even be worth trying different patterns, to mimic the diffusion/absorption effects of textured room treatments.  Something like a crosshatch pattern or a series of little circles that leave part of the original backing visible might give you the best of both worlds.
