Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread - Page 184

UNREAL!  Logitech customer service is great but they gotta have the shoddiest worst built IEM's out there.  Even $5-10 earbuds last much longer.  It really is unreal when you think what is being paid for these things and to have them falling apart in your hands.  This isnt isolated either.  Seem to hear about this every week or so from someone.

What vexes me is that after being on the market and in production for such a long period, the QC issues have not been resolved. Logitech needs better QC literature in their employee training manuals. This is highly unacceptable for a company of such caliber.

I've been using UE products since before they were bought by Logitech. Never had problems with any of their stuff until I got the UE900s.

Mine Im not the most careful with them but they still work great..I had the channel cut outs mostly on the left side..but after taking the cable off and rotating the ear piece a few times that went away..maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. Knock on wood lol. But still very unacceptable..specifically for what these cost..they should have recalled every single one of these and fixed the problem with them. There is no way they should fall apart like that. If they don't do something and very soon they will loose a lot of customers if not already ..

I got my UE900s today.  I didn't even bother listening with the silicone tips.  Took them off and attached the largest foamies instead.  I'm now about 30 minutes in, and I'm not entirely happy with the sound if I leave the equalizer flat.  I'm using a Rockboxed Clip Zip into an E07K, and I'm liking the 'Headphones' EQ setting.  Does that make me a bad person?   I'm trying hard to get used to the non EQ'd sound, but it's a bit too boxy and lacking sparkle for me.  I should listen again in the morning.  On the way home from work I was listening to my B&W P7s with a bit of rumble 'n' sparkle EQ, so that might have affected things....

Bad idea to listen to UE900 after P7, you will get a quick reality check about 900 lack of bass quantity :)  Regardless of what some might say, a good 8-10hr burn-in with a pink noise loop will bring back some sparkle to UE900.  But as I mentioned before, switching to FiiO's RC-SE1 replacement cable will be the single best improvement you can do for these guys.

Sony hybrids (MH1) bring out some more bass and bring the upper mids forward as well as some goos treble. I like more neutral so I prefer meelec balanced or sensorcom biflanges. But for bass and more sparkle I recommend MH1-hybrids. However I think the soundstage suffers just a bit.

Just received my refund from Logitech today following my second failure of UE900s.Despite what has been said previously I was advised by Logitech UK that they were being phased out and that I could not have been given a replacement even  if I had wanted one.Now thinking of replacement possibly Shure Limited Edition J.Any thoughts ,not going to use an amp.

In my book, FA-4E is what the UE900 should've been but it's more simplistic and less gimmicky. Also no mic cable and less tips etc.

Despite Mr.Diaz saying that they're not discontinued, they already are, of course, Mr.Diaz can address custom requests for UE 900s.

Anyway, I'm wondering whether or not UE 900s is a good IEM to listen to Electronic music, mostly progressive house, trance and general electro.

Can't speak for the rest of the world, but US Logitech still lists UE900 (UE600, UE4000/6000/9000 are not longer listed in there).  At this point we can only speculate if they are going to be replaced with a new model or refreshed based on improved QC.

Regarding UE900 use for EDM music, no, I wouldn't recommend it because I find them a bit too mid-centric (too bright toward upper mids).  Of course YMMV, but speaking from a personal experience of listening mostly to EDM and also being EDM bedroom producer - you better off with warmer sound signature of W40 since they have more bass presence and a bit of roll off in upper frequencies. UE900 will be too bright to listen to EDM for extended period of time, it will start to hurt your ears :)  W40 is smoother and warmer, more appropriate for that, plus you get more bass quantity ;)

Where do you live? I wonder if it's only in EU or US/ Canada as well...

Doe's anyone know how to test IEM for sound quality ?, I've owned my UE900 for 8 months and the sound seems to have changed but it's hard to be certain for sure. I feel like mine have lost it's fullness/bass/equalizer or something is just missing.. about a week ago I experienced a squealing noise but after removing headphones and putting them back in it had resolved the issue but they just kind of sound dull and find my self turning up music trying to regain that full and rich experience. I've tried both cables and no difference but what is it most likely to be ? I'm not an audiophile or headphone enthusiast so I have very limited understanding or knowledge of IEM.

Thanks :(

I could cry, I've experienced build quality issues with Logitech Z 10 up to 8 pairs of Ultimate Ears 350 & 400 (Similar design but same build just with different levels of noise isolation) I always thought the cable was to blame and maybe it was but now my Ultimate Ears 900 are suffering a similar fate it's crazy. The only conclusion I can draw is Logitech manufactures really cheap shoddy products yet styles them up and markets them in premium range.. Most of their computer peripherals come in sleek black How else can they afford to make all these great designs at really affordable market prices and continue to discontinue them after only a couple years (Z 10), (Quickcam AF) (UE900) etc ? I really like Logitech and the support has been great with replacements and allowing 50% discounts on upgrades but it's not good if the products do not last more then the 2 year standard warranty.
