Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Impressions Thread - Page 18

Guys, I added into the deals thread the fact that I had entered a different qualifying product into the cart instead of the UE900. The code still didn't work! confused_face_2.gif

Could be that the shopping cart software broke until someone at UE fixes it.

According to this, it may be what you're looking for.  When I get them and burn them in, I'll compare to the PFE232 during the weekend :)

looking forward to your impressions. Interested in both along with the 4ai.

I would compare to the 4.Ai, but will only be getting the 3.Ai by the time the 900s get here.

A-freaking-men...I'm dating a musician and SHE doesnt even have this much interest in audio gear.

Although it might be that I'm mainly into IEMs, and she doesn't like in-ears...

TF10 is quite comfortable for me, personally...it's certainly unfortunate that your ears are small, but I don't think it invalidates the existence of dual-bore universals...

A dual bore with a universal... with a tip over it will be too thick and uncomfortable.  UE900 should be just as uncomfortable as TF10.  Just hoping for an improved sound sig.

With complys I found them fine. Not nearly as comfy as a Westone but I rarely listen more than an hour at a time so I can deal with TF10.

If Etymotic can make a 8mm dynamic driver taper down into a 2mm sound tube (MC5) you should be able to make a narrow sound tube universal with any number of parallel BAs.  Personally the SHE3580 (4mm sound tube I think?) is the largest bore sound tube I'll want to fit in my ear canal.  Don't really understand why so many high end IEMs still have such large bores...

edit: so I realize it's not the number of drivers that's the issue (plenty of universals with like 4 drivers) but the fact that the two sound tubes from the drivers go all the way into the bore that the tip fits over.  Any sonic reason for doing this rather than merging the tubes before the end bore?

I'm excited, at this moment, i'd buy them for $200 Black Friday Sale hahaha, from reading this thread I can safely conclude that this sounds better than Sony XBA-4

For that price range not a yes but a hell yes. Never meet an IEM so sensitive to source. A lot of fine tweaking is needed for this. The only reason I kept mine is a) did not want to sell it for half of what I paid for and b) I am in a quest to find the best possible source for them, it has became a challenge for me.

All I know is that I like the xba1 over 2,3,4 and I know at least two guys that share this opinion.

The general census is that the best bang for the buck is the XBA-1, the best sounding(without amping) is the XBA-3. I honestly do not know with what unit they tested the XBA-4 and decided to release it to the market. There is no way this unit will sound good with any main stream DAP. I swear at one point I thought it was only all in my head and the XBA-4 infact sound good but than i saw there are more of us out there and the relief knowing that I am not crazy made me calm again.
