Just bought a pair of UE900 and can't wait for delivery.

A question, would having a pair of custom ear mold made for the 900 bring more harm than good? Or shall I say IEMs are engineered differently than CIEM so should just leave them alone?

Custom ear mold as in custom ear TIPS? Or reshelliing the UE900 into a custom-fit acrylic shell?

If custom tip there should be no problems, but you should note that as you use the UE900, the mini-bore (one of the holes that sound travels through) will gradually fill with ear wax and oil and stuff. This causes a great decrease in midbass, and it makes the sound much cleaner and gives the UE900 one of the best bass responses I've heard in an IEM.

If you reshell the UE900 into a custom acrylic shell, that mini-bore will not be present in the new shell, and thus you will be stuck with the out of the box sound, which is not necessarily inferior, but I (and many others) MUCH prefer the sound of them AFTER the mini-bore has filled. (about 1 week or regular usage should fill it and you will easily notice the difference in the sound)

So, it is up to personal preference. If you like the UE900 out of the box, then by all means get them reshelled. If the slight veil over the upper midrange bothers you, use them forna week or so to fill up the mini bore. If you aren't that patient, you can use a bit of melted candlewax to block the bore.

Thanks, this is what one of my local audiologists could do, what you think? I just want to make sure by doing this it would not affect the original acoustic design of the IEM.

That shouldn't affect the sound too much.  May give a little more bass and treble response though ;)

Hey guys do you think the Baldur MKII cable is a nice upgrade for the UE900?

why would you be paying that amount of money for a universal iem cable?

Just got my 900, what a difference! As much as I love my old and trusty Etymotic, a whole new sound horizon has opened up, although need a bit of time to get used to wearing them.

Those tips look pretty comfortable.  I would think a better seal with the custom tips would improve bass response.

Just got my UE900s today.  Listening right now to some high res FLACs.  If it's true that these will improve with run-in, then I have something stellar to look forward to!  They already sound really nice!

Pretty comfortable too.  I fiddled around with different size tips, I ended up using the middle size.

OK, run in or not, these are kicking the hell out of my Etymotics!  I guess that's not really a fair comparison, but man!  These are awesome!
