I meant for this post to respond to a post from another member asking about custom cables, but I guess I haven't quite figured out how to use the reply feature yet. Anyhow, I recently ordered a custom cable with a custom length - a DHC Symbiote SE Hybrid (from Peter at Double Helix Cables). I can't wait to get them. They will arrive probably in another 4 weeks or so. I will post my findings. I'm interested to hear if they really improve the sound quality. All I know at this point is they look really cool in pictures :)

After comparing the Westone 4R and Logitech UE900 here are the positives.
4R:
- Slightly wider sound stage.
- Better isolation.
UE900:
- Better imaging. Instruments have a more distinct position and space.
- Clearer mids, highs
- More realistic timbre for strings and piano.
- You get 2 cables.
- Better hard-case. The orange clip on my westone case broke first day.
The connections on my UE900 did cause a crackling noise but after changing cables a few times and putting in and taking out of my ears a few times it has completely gone.
So I am going to sell my 4R to pay for the UE900 :)

A bit off topic, but my UE 700´s are beginning to break down only after a few weeks of use. The 3.5mm connector wire is exposed. Very poor for a 150 dollar product, although I got them for around 50. Have to say I´m not impressed if this is an indication of UE´s build quality. That said the sound signature is very nice, it would be very interesting to hear the 900 someday. So I guess I´m also on the "waiting for further revision/post launch QC improvements" list.
I got my 700's made into customs, after getting my triple 10s made into customs as well...I love their sound signature, but the build does kinda suck, that is why I spent a little more to get them customized
it really does crack me up how so many people justify what poor quality control issues theses headphones have had.....You should not being hearing cracking, sound going in and out, having to put dexoit on connectors, having to change cords on a $400 product..They do sound great but way too many problems for all the justifications
Would be interesting to hear whether the build quality has been refined.

So true and should be enough reason to just get the W4 and don't look back. Just as worthy and IEM soundwise and bassier for those that like their bass.

We aren't justifying it, we're giving solutions to problems. It's no different than saying, use these pads on these headphones if you want a flatter sound, etc. It's no justification to the problems, it's just a solution/alternative. I had the problem on my first pair. You know what the solution was? Grab a brush and brush off the connectors.

So far my pair has had zero issues. Sound wise these are the IEM I have bought. But I am watching for any issues like a hawk. I have thought about going the W4 route but do prefer the form factor of the UE900 more and also like it's treble alot (for some this should read the UE900 is way to trebly and bright!!). For those reasons and an easy 14 day no questions asked return policy lead to my decision to try these.
My second pair had no issues (UE still wanted the old one back even though I fixed the issue). The W4 is a great IEM though. Before the pinhole nozzle fills, it actually had less treble than the W4 (lower treble). Both are great IEMs, I still feel (and there are those that will disagree with me) the W4 is slightly more superior to the UE 900.

If you haven't heard them, it's worth a try. They are darker though, but still do very well for themselves technically. Build on my W4Rs is great.

. Also which IEM has the most energy? Sorry for all the questions but I would have to return these and then order the W4 online so have to do some due diligence here...- Ultimate Ears UE 900 Discussion and Appreciation Thread
