I want to throw this out there to you guys and see what kind of responses I get. I am aware that IEMs and full size cans are different so don't think I am naive.
I am finding I like these UE900s a great deal The detail and realism is top notch. If I were to go out and buy a full sized closed back set of headphones, which ones would be most similar from a detail and sonic signature? Thanks for your input.
Was able to win in an auction for these phones for $341 shipped brand new and sealed. I know how risky buying from such places can be with electronics, as I almost got ripped off with ie80 fakes.
Here's some pics. Seems legit?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)Yep, sealed in all the right places and the tape looks identical to mine. Hope you enjoy them.
Edit: getting used to this forum's quote system is apparently going to take some time. Finally got it right.
I got $400 to burn should I get UE 900, Westone 4, or Shure SE535. I've owned the shure SE215LTD, Monster Turbine, Monster Turbine Gold, and Vsonic Gr07. Will I notice a sizable difference in quality.
Non, if you can find the SM3 V2 get that ;)
Seriously though the W4 is really good and I'd get that over the UE900 and SE535, it has forward mids but they're not to forward and they just sound better than both the others imo.
I've been looking for a brick and mortar store that carries high end iems so I can audition them with easy returns.
Apple Stores, Best Buy as well should both have them. I would also be a bit weary with brick and mortar as it's a possibility that they could have bad stock on hand. If you do get a bad one, but enjoy the headphones, return them to the store and purchase through Logitech (less likely to get a bad stock).
Ended up just ordering from logitech yesterday morning after confirming they wouldn't accept warranty claims from eBay sellers.
I got a order confirmation email yesterday but nothing since then.
It's in "order in process" and and they've already charged my PP account. How long does logitech take to ship their products with with express shipping?
Just got the shipping email, very excited.

I got to compare mine yesterday to the Shure 535 LTDs. I was in an airport Inmotion store but it was a walk in store and he gave me some time with them. I am a Shure fan from having a set of SE215s and a pair of SE425s (I returned these in favor of the SE215 due to price). After having my UE900s for a couple of weeks now I am confident I know their sound fairly well. Needless to say the Shures did sound good but I was surprised that they didn't really move me. The sound was fuller and thicker. Bass was not as tight or defined. The highs were more pronounced but not nearly as clear or airy. Its funny because the LTDs seemed to have more treble energy but not nearly as much detail.
I am sure that having some real quality time with them I would find things that are nice about the Shures but the price is not indicative of the performance IMO. Let me say this, I may have that backwards, I think the UE900s actually outperform their price at $400. Considering I got mine for much less, then you have a real winner. I believe that if UE had not been purchased by Logitech we have have tighter quality control but we also would have a set of IEMs in the $500 range as well. The scale they can bring to the table from a distribution standpoint probably helps alot. This is a great IEM for a very good price.
After fiddlin around with the ear tip sizes I found my fit (small). They sound great out of the box, though I fully understand how fit matters with these. At first I thought they sounded "meh" but after swapping to small they're perfect.
