AKG K242 HD Problem?

Hi guys,

 

I have some trouble with my akg k242hd,  the right side don't give sound any more...(sometimes when I pull on the plastic stripes (on top) the sound comes back but when I move or bend it goes back to silent.. anyone had experience with this issue or the same with other AKG headphones and did you manage to solve it and how?

 

Ps. sorry for my bad english..;)

most likely a cracked or broken wire internally.

 

I once rewired a 272HD with Mogami and it was a breeze. The solder pads are easily accessible and large. I also did it so that wire ran to both ears. Much better for me.

 

If you have warranty or don't want to rewire, that would be your best bet.

I don't have any warranty unfortunately.... so I must sold the wires back, how did you manage to open the right side of an akg headphone I don't see any screws...

The AKG tabs on the sides should have tiny slots on the bottom. A jeweler screwdriver can fit in the slot and carefully lift the tab up. The tabs are stuck on with adhesive and you may end up peeling some of the paint off the tab. Not the best by any means. Go slow. There is a single screw under those tabs.

 

You'll have to remove the ear pads to reveal more screws on the face.

 

They are pretty easy to undo. You just have to clip the wires, de-solder, and snake new ones through and solder. These are actually a very easy pair to work on.

 

They may differ a bit from the 272. You always have to be careful to not de-solder the voice coil. If you don't feel comfortable with that, you may want to have someone else do the repair.

I've managed to open it up and yeppp the wire was not attached anymore... I must solder it back.. do you guys recommened lead or lead free tin for audio equipment?
