Looking for a nice set of portable headphones

Thread Starter

I am looking for a nice set up portable headphones.   My main listing preference is classic rock.   The devices I listen on are Ipod classic, Ipod touch, Iphone 4, I also recently purchased a Cowon Z2 so that will probably become my main device.   When I rip my music I primarily rip at 320 but recently have been ripping to flac's and using the flac player app on my touch and iphone.   The Cowon handles flac's natively but I have been using poweramp on the Cowon to play the flac files.

I also have a fiio E17 which I purchased a couple months ago but haven't played too much with it.

Typically I haven't had much luck with in ear devices.  I never seem to get the fit right so i would like to stay away from inner ear models if possible.   Are there any portable phones out there that compare to the IE80's that are not in ear models?

I would like to keep the purchase below $500.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

Mike

The V-Moda M80, beyerdynamic DT1350, and Sennheiser HD 25-1-ii all come to mind.  They are all excellent portable headphones with pretty good comfort.  The M80 is the most bass emphasized of the bunch, the DT1350 is the more neutral with a slightly recess midrange which may not be great for your tastes, and the HD 25-1-ii is a good balance between the two.

I highly suggest the HD 25-1-ii as they are proven to last and sound really good for a portable headphone.
