World's best headphone amp - and I'd never even heard of it ...

No, its not the Zodiac, and the 'worlds best' is a parting shot at Srajan for injecting that possibility into a preview of a product he hasn't even reviewed properly yet. Fans of the Mac Mini will be jubilant at the prospect. wink.gif

Sadly, very few of us could afford it anyway. 43000 Swedish Krona is over 6K AUD, and not a single 300B in sight.

A tad expensive indeed...

links?

Bakoon. Their Japanese HQ is an hour's drive south of me. I tried their top headphone amp in Tokyo and was impressed. It's very similar in concept (and sound) to Audio-gd gear, except their Korean-made gear looks far more classy. Those amps are speaker amps by the way.

Balkoon makes a brief appearance in the Tokyo Headphone Meet coverage, but I haven't seen the above mentioned anywhere else on HF.

Srajan muddies the waters - at least in my mind - by showing two very different looking amps in that preview/review - I believe the black one is the prototype unit he was originally given,

Oh dear. I seem to have wet myself over the form factor.

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems to me to be an intergrated speaker amp with headphone socket.

I also fail to see what would make this the world best headphone amp - good... probably... best.... doubtful....

Did you actually take the time to read Srajan's review, or the way I phrased the first post in this thread ?

The amp retails for $4995.00 including its special stand and is available here........http://store.jaguaraudiodesign.com/ .

It can be configured as an integrated power amp or as a headphone amp. Srajan does a proper review here........http://www.bakoonproducts.com/review/amp-11r-review-6moons/ .

This amp appears to have an excellent pedigree whereas it is virtually unknown in the States. Certainly not a design to be made light of.

Here's a good shot of this.

No denying I'd love to hear this.  I really don't dig the Apple look though.  Leave that to Apple and come up with something of your own.

From Audio Addiction........

The industrial designer of this amplifier appears to have taken notes from Apple and kept the exterior minimalist to the core. However what I found out when I discussed this with Soo In Chae from Bakoon was in fact quite surprising. Bakoon had designed this shape back in 2009 before the Apple Mac Mini was released. While finalising the design the Mac Mini came out with a difference in width and depth of just one millimeter. It just goes to show that good design is all about getting proportions right. Without any known external influence Soo In had chosen a size ratio that was simple and elegant and timeless. It appears that the designers at Apple had the same idea at the same time separated by 10,000 kilometers.

Sir, I hereby insult this amp's parentage!

And furthermore, I assure you that bacon is quite well known to us Yankees.

Icenine....do us all a favor and order one on a trial basis. Talk to Darin over at Jaguar Audio Design. ' course you gots to pay up front for the privilege but you gets your dough back if you don't like it and end up returning the amp. I'd do it myself but you are more experienced in such matters and more capable of providing us with a review. Whatcha think?
