I've seen many people describe the D2000 has having recessed mids. Do they?

What you think about the sennheiser HD 598/600?

They seem like the easiest to drive without an amp.. on the other hand, I'm worried about the confort. The earpieces don't seem so big as the DT800 or 2k and the point is for them to disappear as much as possible.

I owned the D2000 twice...

 

They have exagerated bass, recessed mids, bright treble

I'm starting to get inclined to the AKG K550 because of the price (180€ @ amazon.de), isolation, confort and great aesthetics. Worried about the SQ though.. :/

Another closed option would be the DT660.

 

Opinions?

Never heard the K550s, but they seem to be getting decent reviews around here. 180 euros seems to be a reasonable price.

 

But to chime in regarding the D2000, I feel they do have recessed mids. Of course, I like my mids pretty far forward, so take that with a grain of salt.

 

The HD598/600 are both good headphones, but note that they don't isolate at all.

Personally, I wouldn't consider the HD600s without an amp - it just won't bring out the best of them so why pay for something that you won't fully take advantage of??

That being said, if amped correctly, they are outstanding for jazz and classical!!! That makes up about 90% of my listening and the Senns just sing with those genres.

 

The Beyers DT880s - you would want to go with the 32 ohm versions if you go that route.
