I hosted the last two Los Angeles Meets in my Venice Beach home on the sand. I managed a Valet company in Boston in College so I had the parking worked out to be a non-issue (Hard considering Venice Parking can be difficult) Early set up times assured we got the parking before everyone else.

That was a pretty convenient place- but a long drive for those coming from San Diego. I was 20-25 min from Los Angleles airport (LAX).

Newport Beach is much nicer IMHO. and John Wayne Airport (SNA) is way easier to deal with than bustling LAX. My beach cottage is a $10 cab ride (7 minutes) from the airport. You exit the airport, turn right on Mac Arthur and drive 5 minutes until you hit PCH (Pacific coast highway) I am 3 blocks down on the right. If your wife and kids just keep going down PCH, in 5 minutes they would see some of the nicest California coastal views- and could stop for lunch at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna ...amazing views from all of their dining areas, with more reasonable pricing than other Ritz properties. If you decide ot make it a luxury vacation the Ritz even arranges for a Mercedes Benz rental.

Now I have a beach cottage in Corona del Mar on the famous flower streets of Newport Beach. While the home is not as grand- the neighborhood is a major upgrade. IMHO you could not live in a nicer area of the USA. I am a 3 minute walk to what I think are the 4 best beaches in CA. So if you were to bring the wife and kids... you could walk to a beach with a natural climbing wall, a cave, or one with open firepits at night, another with tidepools with sealife, or even the tiny residents beach. You could also go to FASHION ISLAND which was one of the USA's first outdoor malls- and still one of the nicest. They could spend an entire day there and never feel like they were wasting time.

I could also arrange for a much larger beach home in Corona del Mar Newport Beach. There are no parking meters in Corona del Mar. Crime is non existent. After living here for a year I have yet to see any broken glass for a car break in..ANYWHERE...amaazing.

If we wanted to have a large meet...well there is this.....a 5 minute walk from my beach house.

Err.. at $130 million dollars it has to be the very nicest gov't buildings I have ever seen. Normal gov't offices are a drudgery to go to...not this one! That price tag was just for the building- there was a lot more spent on the surround walking trails and dog park. This is also walking distance to Fashion Island (where they used to hold the original Boy Scout Jamborees) . covered FREE parking for up to 450 cars. Sure we might have to pay some laughably small fee (or it might be free) to rent two adjacent conference rooms, but I am sure it can be done.

Ok, here is another option... a mid sized one. I am friends with The New Port Theater, about 5 doors down from my beach cottage.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-port-theater-corona-del-mar-2

They just opened it this year. The seats are super comfortable...liike SIT IN ALL DAY comfortable, and it has all leather seating , couches, loungers, full size lazy boy style recliners, Every SEAT HAS A SMALL TABLE. And get this......Nothing is bolted to the floor- so we can move furniture around as we like. They also got their liquor license and serve food- have great bathrooms- yes it can be an extended party. They do not have many showings per day- and regularly have events- this week is a Prohibition party to open the Great Gatsby . it's so close to my ancient beach house we jokingly call it my newly renovated east wing media center. Walking time- 20 seconds. So in terms of all day comfort..this one with its chairs easy access to food- secure location is ideal. There might be a fee- but lets say we pay $15.....they dont have big attendance during the day- so 25 people would be about 2 shows worth for them. And compared to what $15 would get us at some run down 4 star hotel...this is paradise. I might get them to toss in a movie ticket for that. It's a seriously clean venue- the photos do not do it justice. Parking is free, there is a Albertsons supermarket 1 block away and about 25 restarants and 3 nightclubs within a 3 block radius. And of course the wide and kids can walk to the beach from there.

The beaches are not your typical dusty california strip beaches. Newport's beaches make gritty Venice Beach seem like a used Kitty litter box. (Venice's appeal is the grit BTW) These Newport Beaches have real character and are the prettiest beaches I have ever seen in California. Littlle corona has a beach cave and natural climbing wall and rocks- a lovely jetty entrance to newport harbor (One of the cleanest in the USA, and the largest) separates the big corona beach with fire pits and volley ball nets and cool rocks rising 15 feet like mini mountains out of the surf. There is a tide pool beach 100 yards from there with sea life, and in the other direction there is a tiny quiet residents beach. Your kids can rent Stand up paddle boards with the wife, kyacks, paddle boats with bike pedals, Electric Duffy boats- and boat to dockside restaurants, (The start of Gilligans Island (the 3 hour tour) was shot here) , bike rentals, segway rentals, and if you ave a testosterone driven teen- you can go water jetpacking and fly 40 feet over the water at 20 mph. Plus there are car shows EVERY WEEK on Saturday at the nearby Irvine Spectrum center which dwarf most other car shows. And a luxury car show Concours at the St. Regis in Dana point 25 min away. One a tight budget saving for some HD 800's?... rent some bikes, coast down Bayside drive past the yacht clubs and take a left onto Balboa Island- lots of fun shops there and take the $1 ferry over to balboa Pennisula where your kids can ride a Ferris wheel at the Newport Fun Zone go to Coney Island style arcades, or even just bike down the "THE WEDGE" a famous surf spot....it's the youth area.

So...that takes care of the wife and kids. DONE. They wont ask you when the meet is over, they wont want to leave. Pester free- They will be asking you when can you go to the next Head-fi meet in Newport AGAIN.

People who know me , know I do things in a quality style and make it affordable or free for everyone.

OK...the kicker.... my cousin married Grammy award winning Jazz Singer Carmen Lundy, and I also have a famous Pianist (can not mention his name but he sold 4 million CDs) as a good friend. Both are interested in headphones, they could both come and possibly perform for a few minutes - bring their CD's (Carmen has some special HRX JVC audiophile grade ones) and you can hear her sing live for a song or two to calibrate your ears to a TRUE REFFERENCE..and then use the CD's to find out what really sounds accurate.

Lastly- at my beach cottage I upgraded my Chapman speakers to T9- MKII ($20K) I am the California distributor. So there is a great Speaker system there as a reference too. I still have the Wadia 860X with GNS statement level upgrade- as a good CD reference- it was the favorite of the last two meets.

And the final kicker. Newport Beach is equidistant from Los Angeles and San Diego (about 90 min from each) ...so it can really be an ALL SOCAL meet. Not to mention John Wayne Airport (SNA) is incredibly easy to fly in and out of - a breeze compared to LAX, and those wanting to come from anywhere in CA could fly for cheap. Las Vegas also has cheap flights.

The 405 freeway....typically you have to fight tooth and nail through slow moving surface streets with tons of traffic lights to get to the 405 freeway. ... not the case here. Easiest traffic free route...405- 55S for a few miles to 73s to Mac Arthur Blvd and only 3-4 lights until you hit PCH. You can get to all of the places I mentioned staying 5 lanes wide until the last 3 blocks...ZERO TRAFFIC.

If there is any interest in this, i will start a dedicated Newport Beach Thread. Oh, and BTW my singing Cousin lives in woodland hills- so maybe she would consider showing up to the Marriott event.

So think about it... there is a lot for a family to do here compared to Venice beach. Luxury ultra comfy leather chairs in a brand new theater, or a birght airy civic center that you could not believe is a gov't building, or someones huge beach home...anyone up for it? I know it's not Los Angeles..its the OC.

I am not a wealthy guy...most consider me to be a generous host. I do know how to throw great memorable events on a shoestring. When I spend money it goes 10 times further than anyone else. So don't worry about this being expensive (cost I would limit to free or $15 for the theater with a coupon for a free movie ticket - knowing full well few would have the energy or time to take advantage of it... but it's there...just saying....) ...I will say this... it would be one headphone event you can't afford to miss.

Still SoCal  smile.gif  When were you thinking of doing this?

BTW, I'm going to assume you'll be at THE Show later this month?

I will be exhibiting in room 310 of the Atrium and room 532 next door at the Hilton at T.H.E.SHOW Newport Beach.

I would like to hold some sort of mini meet before if possible. Or a bigger meet afterwards.

I'll definitely see you there!  Missed T.H.E. Show last year and been kicking myself since.

That's what I was thinking... to capitalize on people already being there for the show.  Although, I think before would be very short notice.

Y'all up for something like this?  Also fellas, don't forget about the meet coming up in July (check my sig).
